I don't hate Calzaghe, I just felt his career left a lot to be desired. He was a very good fighter but couldn't prove he was more than that because of his competition.
When your conspiracy theory regarding racist jingoism against white guys from Eastern Europe that you've stuck to against all evidence for 15 years blows up in your face, what do you do? Attempt to save face by inventing a new conspiracy involving the unfair meanie treatment of a welsh Italian... We're all tuning in to the bouts of Golovkin and Kovalev not because we like watching them fight but because we're engaging in a secret mission to make ourselves appear impartial as we accurately pick apart the pathetic resume of the least convincing fighter to be called "great" by anyone in a good 60 years or more
I watch Kovalev and pray for him to be KOd not because he is white but because I AM white but on here I pretend to be impressed with him just so I can have a go at that Joe Calzoni
Things have come to such a pass with Calzaghe that the very class of fighter that for so long has been derided is now being relied upon to refute Calzaghe. If anything is rich, ironic, and what have you, that's it. Remember, you were at this the night Pascal got the better of Dawson. "Oh Froch is still shit". Now Froch this-that-the-other. How times have changed. Kelly Pavlik, another guy who had the good fortune to be exposed by Hopkins rather than Calzaghe. What untold damage having the shit smacked out of him by Calzaghe would have done. But anyone can lose to Hopkins, so Kelly lucked out there.
Kovalone, 15 years ago, would be getting the same treatment Calzaghe is now. But today......he is a useful dud until somebody else that "WUDDA BEAT JOE" comes along. I do wonder what effect these fights have had because they are in North America. Seems to make them count for more. He killed a man in Russia, I did a thread and it got a few comments. Now he comes and slaps about a few bums like Sillakh and this Pascal guy.....big news. Heavy hype.

Lol yeah times have changed drastically ... It has nothing to do with calzaghe avoiding real challenges for years, fighting in an awful, boring style and often looking like shit against some of the shittiest opponents imaginable, etc. ... If Kovalev was having all of his fights in Moscow or something against nothing but guys nobody had ever heard of and doing it by slapping 100 times per round en route to boring decisions, everybody with any sense would be asking what the fucking deal was just as they did with the Jazzerciser

Do you guys remember when you were all writers for SecondsOut and you said all that shit?!?! Man, those were the days
