Acopalypse Now is the most overrated film of all time, IMO

It could have been great... I think it is a goddamned mess the last hour or so

I think a lot of what was wrong with it was fixed in the redux.

Lots of great individual scenes, but as a full movie, yeah it's a bit of a mess.

yup... excellent performances all around (except Dennis Hopper... I hate Dennis Hopper... positively hate him... he lowers the quality of every film he's ever been in)

Guys: keep in mind that 'Apocalypse Now' is just a modern re-tale of joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness'. It's main theme is the loss of morality. On the other hand 'Kramer vs Kramer' was as relevant as a Univision spanish telenovela, which had exploited the same plot for decades. :wack:

yeah, but Sean Penn the actor is different to me from Sean Penn the guy... The actor is outstanding, the guy is a humorless cunt

With Hopper, the actor is the same annoying, hectoring faggot as the guy... His character (he was always the same fucking mook) sucks, I hate that character, I want to punch him

I got to agree with both of you: I couldn't stomach Dennis Hooper, I found him terribly overhyped by the 'Easy Rider' groupies and he basically was himself in all his roles. However an exception was in True Romance. He made me forget I didn't like him in that film. His scene with Christopher Walken was everything I dreamed of a scene between DeNiro & Pacino (sorry, but their scene in 'Heat' was a letdown for me).

I thought parts of the script came over like allusions to the two actors meeting. It played as cheesy to me.

fuck both of you. That scene was brilliant. Deniro was excellent in it. Pacino was playing catchup. Deniro's eyes were gold there.

I wish they'd worked together in a different film. Them both being bad ass authority figures pitted against each other with the whole film building up to them meeting was just the most cliched possible way to do it. Throw in all the terse 'So finally after all this time we're face to face' stuff and....:scared:

Come on, Anthony, don't be such a cheerleader! When 'Heat' was released many critics expressed a similar disappointment when these two thespians shared the screen for the first time. Phrases like 'uneventful', 'passable', 'decent' and merely 'effective' were used to this describe the scene, but 'brilliant' wasn't one of them. The best review came from Entertainment Weekly which gave the film a B- and stated these two characters were not interesting enough to fill such a long running film, but that in the scene in the Café both actors were trying to out-insinuate each other which for a brief moment the film finally brought some heat. But another critic said something like as a movie fan he was at the edge of his seat waiting for the fireworks from these two screen giants to set ablaze the screen, but sadly their encounter did not even lit a match.
