I agree with you. Young could beat a lot of the 90's crop at his (somewhat inconsistent) best --- I wouldn't pick Lewis to be one of them.
Frankly or seriously, Lennox doesn't knock anyone out late. It's Lewis early or Lewis by stinker decision.
Its a Lewis decision, count on it. Young was a very resourceful fighter when under heavy fire, and I dont think Lewis would see any reason to go after him anyway. I couldnt be bothered to look, but did Lewis have many late TKOs or KOs? I cant recall any.
the lack of late KOs is more of an indication that a Lewis inclined to knock you out usually did so early... that does not mean he failed to carry his power late
A lack of late KOs in a long career is telling. It means that if he doesn't bomb you out early he's content to go the distance and win the decision. In this case the stats do tell the story because anyone who followed Lenox's career knew that about him.
Most of Lewis' KOs were him JUMPING on a guy. Tearing through them like a tornado (& with the kind of huge intensity it's difficult to muster in later rounds when you're 245lb). Not many were really one punch KOs. Against a guy like Young who it was hard to walk onto a single bomb, the chances of Lewis doing it with one shot are small and so are the chances of a late KO i think. Lewis UD about 9-3 i reckon.
The consensus is sound here: I'd pick Lewis by wide decision unless he saw nothing to worry him, in which case he'd blast Young out sharpish. MTF
Yup..Lewis would either bowl through them like Grant, Ruddock, Golota, Botha, Rahman 2, Biggs...or he'd have already decided to just chill and administer a lesson in "boxingology".
If one looks at the guys he decisioned, one gets a more accurate picture of why that was the case... Tucker... durable guy who knew how to survive in there, nobod else knocked him out either... But Lennox certainly tried, dropping him twice Mercer... with that chin, 'nuff said Holyfield... great fighter, a born counterpuncher who did his best work when under attack and pressured... it made no sense to go after him, too much of a risk Tua... lame fighter with no boxing ability but legitimate one-punch power... again, it was only sensible to just jab the daylights out of him and win easy The only one left in Lennox's prime or close to it in a 10 rounds or greater fight is Zeijko Mavrovic... a shit fighter who seemed able to take a shot, if nothing else What do Tua, Mercer and Holy all have in common? they could potentially hurt Lennox badly enough to cost him the fight Against Young, a cutie far smaller than he and with featherfists (knockdown of a completely EXHAUSTED George Foreman notwithstanding) ... Lewis would have nothing to be cautious about... I think he sticks that jab in Young's face all night and inevitably traps him often enough to wear him out with shots and eventually take him out
