That name comes back to me now alright.

Just to be sure, are you not confusing him with the guy who came off his motorbike and was paralyzed and was murdered by his carer?

That guys name was Shaun Cummins and he too was forced out by the results of a brain scam after being beaten by Shaun Cummins. He died in Leicester when he was murdered by his carer. A very sad way to go for a guy who had he been able bodied could have beaten his carer to fucking death with one hand.

I remember reading about those fights and never having the wherewithal to see them. By the time TY had come about all of this stuff had largely been forgotten.

Jones was such a brilliant but vulnerable operator.

If Evatt had pulled that off it would have been the greatest performance by a British boxer, level for level, of all time.

Midlands Area to World Level in 12 rounds. Insane.

I think more boxing has been discussed in this thread than the entire forum for the past year.

Richie Evatt comes back to me now.

I saw him fight live once for the Commonwealth Title. This was in the late 1990's, maybe very very early 2000's

He came into the ring with his hair done like a tigers skin. Black and Orange stripes.

He was stopped with a broken jaw by some Australian guy. In a round.

I remember my mate bemoaning it saying that McCullough did 12 rounds with a broken jaw vs Zaragoza.

Had no idea this chap was dead.

Guys like him, Scott Dixon, the Irish guy Roche that Dixon had an epic war with, Scrap Iron Ryan, Buster Keeton, Bruce Scott, Jim Rock {aka Slim Cock} Ensley Bingham...were regular names on SKY of the period.

Low level shit but the commentator alludes to the training regiment of these "bums" at the 2:00 mark of the video.

Might be post of the thread so far, now that I have seen it, really jogs the memory.....20 years + ago that stuff.

I remember reading about the Jones vs Morales fight and being shocked at the outcome, I did not think Morales would do him in 4 rounds.

Just checked it. Evatt got beat by Mick O'Malley on the British undercard of the Naz vs Soto disaster at the COBO Arena in Detroit. An utter horrorshow of a fight.

One of Evatts last wins, maybe his last win, was over this sad -case

No, was definitely Evatt but I do remember the Cummins story, that was equally tragic and horrific.

Good shout on the O'Malley fight, yes I do remember that, jaw gone in one round. I think that was actually the fight directly after this one, it caused Evatt to lose all momentum from the Jones fight straight away (and I think he was knocked out in the fight directly after O'Malley as well).

I believe the plan at the time was after Evatt beat O'Malley, they were going to do a big all-Coventry showdown with Dean Pithie, who was tipped for big things as he was an amateur standout and had beaten Naseem Hamed in the unpaid ranks. I think Pithie himself ended up losing to both Michael Gomez and Affif Djelti (remember him? Kept derailing all the British prospects) and his career also fizzled out into nothing.

Junior Jones turned down a million dollars to fight Hamed when a million bucks was still a million bucks. He wound up getting knocked out for I think 20 grand and from what I hear is broke today.

I do indeed remember Djelti, he wrecked a load of British Level 130lb and 135lb fighters including some guy who had taken JonJo Irwin the distance for the British title.

I think only Dynamo Dunne beat him, and that was over 12.

    Dunne and Shea Neary were standouts from that period on the British scene. Neary eventually lost to Ward and Dunne lost to Schwer, who along with the aforementioned Ayers were Britains best 135lbrs of the time and maybe their best since too {Khan won very little at 135 and he mostly fought 130lbrs there anyways}

'Super' Scott Dixon! Haha I remember that guy, and the fight with Roche, he fought a lot of the other domestic guys too. Bruce Scott and Keeton actually had a trilogy, would definitely recommend their second fight if you ever get hold of it, great war that one.

Remember when Winky Wright came to these shores and beat up Dodson, Foster and Bingham? I believe that South African guy Mpush Makambi came over as well and did the exact same thing, beating the exact same fighters. He beat the shit out of Bingo Bingham (who could seriously crack).

Menawhile, In Ireland, where pro boxers sue Jewish lawyers/Ministers for Justice over personal shit lol lol lol

Shatter is a miserable old Jewface with a bad attitude but Rock is notorious for being a fucking chancer that would screw money out of a stone if he could. He once beeped his car horn at me when he saw me walking to Pete Taylors gym in Ireland, where Katie Taylor trained. Pete was later shot and one of his co-trainers shot dead in that gym about 2 years ago.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/cri...-damages-claim-against-alan-shatter-1.3854876

Former professional boxer Jim Rock has lost his claim for damages against former minister for justice Alan Shatter following a collision between their cars on a road in south Dublin.

The 47-year-old sued the former Fine Gael politician at Dublin District Court for €1,800 after the accident involving his €50,000 Mercedes CLS and Mr Shatter’s Saab at around midnight of December 2nd, 2015.

Mr Rock, who boxed professionally from 1995 to 2009, did not seek personal injuries and his claim was for the cost of car repairs and to rent a replacement vehicle while the work was being carried out.

Dublin District Court heard the two cars suffered minor scrapes and damages to paint work in the crash as they were both going slowly around a bend on Sussex Road, Dublin 4.

Mr Rock and Mr Shatter accused one and other of crossing into each other’s lane causing the collision. Mr Rock was driving on the middle lane and Mr Shatter’s Saab was on the right side lane.

Mr Rock told the court he had beeped his horn and applied the brakes.

He said the politician was “obnoxious” after their cars came to a halt while Mr Shatter said the plaintiff was “belligerent”.

His parliamentary assistant, who was travelling with the former TD, called the gardaí, the court was told.

Dismissing the “hotly contested” case, Judge Anthony Halpin said there was very little common ground in their testimony and it was difficult to adjudicate.

Judge Halpin said the accident was a result of momentary inattentiveness but the evidence was not clear that Mr Shatter was responsible.

Both men believed their version of evidence, he said.

Mr Rock testified Mr Shatter crossed into his lane causing scuffing and scrapes to the Mercedes while Mr Shatter stated he had regularly used this route and was taking a corner slowly.

Mr Rock said in his claim that Mr Shatter swerved suddenly and without warning and in evidence Mr Rock told the court he beeped and applied the brakes.

He agreed in cross-examination with defence solicitor Jerry O’Reilly he had an invoice for work from a Dublin auto-repair firm but the car was fixed in February 2016 when his wife went on a trip to Belfast. No receipt was available but his wife, who normally used the car, told the court she paid.

Mr Rock had sent numerous emails to Mr Shatter’s insurance firm. In one email, Mr Rock wrote that Mr Shatter was a former minister for justice and “probably knows every trick in the book to get away with this but I think his luck has run out, like when he had to resign”.

He also called Mr Shatter a “very unpleasant man” in the same message.

Mr Shatter’s parliamentary assistant Jane Lehane, who was in the front passenger seat, stated in court that she warned the former government ministerthat Mr Rock’s car was going to hit them but the impact occurred before she could complete the sentence. She also said Mr Rock was aggressive.

Denying he had caused the accident, Mr Shatter told the court Mr Rock had been belligerent and he said he did not hear any car beeping before the collision. He said the amount of damages claimed was “so ridiculously small” compared to the time spent on the case, “but I think the truth is important”.

He said he did not cross into Mr Rock’s path.

Judge Halpin said from looking at photo evidence he accepted the collision resulted in superficial damage.

Judge Halpin said both Mr Rock and Mr Shatter and their engineers agreed speed was not a factor.

The court had to assess who drove negligently on the night in question and whose conduct was blameworthy.

He noted Mr Rock had modified his evidence and this affected the weight of his evidence.

He dismissed the case but put a stay on making an order for costs in the event of an appeal.

1 or 2 rounds he needed for Bingham.

Dodson was a fool who was banned for biting.

Foster was absolute dogshit and was still fighting years later against Howard Eastman and the like.

One of the reasons Evatt's performance was so incredible was because it came literally a week or so after Marco Antonio Barrera's UK debut at the York Hall, where he savaged Paul Lloyd so badly his corner pulled him out after only one round:

Lloyd had at least won British, Commonwealth and European titles. Evatt hadn't even got near those and was fighting the guy who beat Barrera twice, I remember beforehand thinking the guy might get killed. Like you said, I think it would have been the best victory by a British boxer ever if he'd seen it out, purely because of the perceived chasm in levels beforehand.

And therein lies the rub....."perceived chasms".

Barrera had made serious adjustments to his style which resulted in his becoming the GOAT until his losses to Pacquaio.

Jones on the other hand had basically continued in his own usual style, falling in love with his power much as Barrera had......before being serious derailed by McKinney and Morales.

By the time he fought Evatt he was damaged goods, but the point has to be made that when Paul Ingle knocked Jones out at MSG on the undercard of Lewis vs Grant, it was still regarded as massive victory for Ingle despite Ingle being perceived as levels above Evatt and despite Jones being now further into decline.

Simply put., Evatt had turned in an ATG underdog performance. The guy could have lost to anyone that night. But he nearly beat Jones.

Might have saved his life too. Margins.

    LOL

    Doing a good bit of legal reading today about the Injunctions {where the Court can step in and order one party to refrain from doing something, or compel a party TO do something}

Injunctions arise in many spheres of activity and one of them is in the sphere of employment relations, specifically contracts, and breach of contracts.

Certain contracts contain terms which may compel or deny one of the parts to do or refrain from doing certain things.

Generally, the law of England has been that the Courts will not compel anyone to do anything where to do so would be to effectively uphold a contract for personal services

Eg if I myself and Clogg have a contract that says Clogg will proofread my posts and there is a term that says Clogg cannot work for anyone else, that he must work for me alone, and Clogg tries to abandon me to Fightbeats shitty spell check and goes to work for Slice instead, the Court would NOT injunct Clogg from doing this on the mere basis of the term of our contract. This is not to say the term itself is bad, or bad law, or illegal, etc. Merely I cannot rely on it to STOP Clogg from working from someone else.

Instead, Clogg might be allowed to go and work for Slice AND pay me some damages {££} for his treacherous conduct.

The important thing to remember here is that the relationship between myself and Clogg is one of employer and employee, and the law of England has never been to compel any one man to work for another.

However, suppose there were awards for posting on this site, and Clogg were in effect my manager, and Clogg would direct me to threads where I would make comments and get plaudits and £ from Anthonhy, and I, having lost trust in Clogg, after being thrown in at the deep end vs Panchy.... sought to break away from him and get Slice to represent me in E-Feuds.....what then would be the law?

Bearing in mind that Clogg does not work for me but rather represents me in some sense? Could Clogg seek to rely on a term in the contract that established him as my manager and which held that I would allow nobody else to represent me?

    No. He could not.

Consider the following extract from Keane on the Law of Equity and Trusts....

"A similar conclusion was reached in Warren v Mendy, where the plaintiff {Frank Warren} agreed to manage a professional boxer and the latter was precluded from employing any other manager during the currency of the contract. The Judge held that enforcing that term would effectively prevent the boxer, who had no business skills and who had lost trust oin the plaintiff, from pursuing his career as a boxer. The Judges refusal to grant the injunction was upheld by the Court of Appeal"

In fact, the distinguished Judge and author mistook the defendant for a boxer, he was not the boxer but rather a guy who was interfering with the boxers contract and trying to get him to sign with him. Ambrose Mendy, all round shithead and waste of space. Read on.

In essence, even though Warren had a watertight contract with a boxer that he would be that boxers professional manager, the boxer could not be stopped from going and getting another manager {Mendy} as to stop him would basically bring the boxers career to a standstill....because he wouldn't fight {and couldn't be made to get in the ring, horses and water} for Warren.

And, as boxers have limited shelf lives where hiatus can be as good as retirement, and given that the boxer basically didn't trust Warren any longer.......the Court decided that the best thing to do was free Mendy from his contract with Warren and leave Warren to seek damages {financial comp} instead.

I was trying to find out who the boxer in question was and came across a puff-piece on facebook about the legend that is Ambrose Mendy

    The Salam Project

"Ambrose Mendy is one of the few people who beat heavyweight boxing promoter Frank Warren (with a legal KO) twice in two landmark cases that has given freedom to many sports stars who were treated like slaves to their sports agent masters. Sadly in in the late 80s and early nineties he was imprisoned for a mistake. Instead of giving up he successfully completed 2 Degrees while in prison and came back stronger in his business skills. In recent years he has been mentoring the next generation of sports agents and boxing promoters plus busy being a Management consultant for 5 African football federations"

Mendy of course was described as being the big swinging dick at Mel Goldberg law.........which was struck-off in 2016 for dishonesty lol

    Your hypothetical was amazing :D

The other thing you brought up with regard to Warren and this other guy reminded me of the Springsteen/Appel/Landau affair ... very similar
