Marking the best opening of 2017 so far 20th Century Fox Logan slayed the com petition with a hefty $85.3 million, marking one of the biggest early march numbers ever and also one of the best openings for an R-rated film. the X-Men spin-off also opened in 75 international territories and could earn between $75-$100 million this weekend. This is a resounding success for Fox after the disappointing performance of 'The Wolverine' and more recently 'X-Men: Apocalypse', but it also creates a problem for them: this is Hugh Jackman's last reprisal of the character he has played for 17 years and Patrick Steward also is vowing out, so the question is what will they do next? It has been reported that Ryan Reynolds is trying to persuade Jackman to have a part as Wolverine in Deadpool 2 but Jackman hasn't bite yet. One thing that might make him change his mind? If Fox lets him play Wolverine in a Marvel Avengers film. Last year Jackman was practically begging for a crossover. Fox didn't bite. In the second spot is last week's champ, the indie horror film Get Out which again had solid numbers with $26.1 million bringing its current domestic total to $75.9 million, which is a blockbuster number for the $4.5 budget film. Lots of champagne toasts for its producers and director. In a rather surprising opening the faith-based film The Shack took the third spot with $16.1 million marking one of the best openings for a faith-based film since 'Heaven is for Real' three years ago with $22 million. The Lego Batman movie falls to the fourth spot with $11.6 million putting it at $148 million domestically. Before I Fall rounded the top five with $4.9 million. And the newest Best Picture of the Year 2016 Moonlight expanded to 1568 screens and grabbed its biggest weekend numbers with $2.5 million...out of the 10 ten list. The Oscar winner has grossed so far $25.4 million, one of the lowest grossing numbers for a Best Picture winner. In fact it has performed better than The Hurt Locker ($17 million), but that is no compliment since the former second lowest grossing ever Best Picture winner is Birdman with $42.3 million.
