Good decision. 119-109 a bit off base though. this fight is gonna make Lopez a much better fighter Loma needs to drop back down to 130
Jesus those fucking cards. You'll get fuck all in America if you're not Latin or born there. Those cards are a disgrace.
Lopez won, just. But nothing was left to chance tonight. Nothing. 119-109? Absolutely no way to treat an established champ with scoring like that. Disgraceful.
Guy like Loma comes to the USA, double Olympic Gold, doesn't establish himself in Europe, doesn't do a DM on it, illuminates the sport in lean times . .and gets treated like that.???
I haven't seen the fight yet. I did assume Lopez' size and youth would be difficult for Loma, but I picked the wrong winner. Props for Lopez, he is great for the sport
Lopez didn't outbox anybody. He won more rounds. Plain and simple. You don't outbox somebody by giving up the first half of the fight and you don't do it by giving up the 2nd half of the fight. You don't outbox anybody by finishing the fight backing up hurt. If that's the case Oscar outboxed Tito. Lopez won, and I felt he'd won, but they just gotta have their narrative.
Loma couldn't figure out the blend of size and physicality including speed/reflexes. Once Lopez slowed just a bit...Loma largely established himself. When it came down to a pure clash of skills, Loma was clearly better. He ran out of rounds. But ironically, had it been a 15:rounder, and had he won the last 3, he'd have still lost by 6 rounds.
Yeah. Agree Lopez's handspeed won him those first 6 rounds. Loma was not able to get his offense going at all in the face of that speed. Still gotta be impressed with Loma's chin. He took uppercut counters, lefthooks and right hands. Was only slightly wobbled in the end.
I was criticized over and over for saying Crawford is better than Loma, but I finally feel vindicated. I'll await all the Loma excuses, but yes... i always felt Crawford was the P4P #1.
Who exactly has Crawford faced anywhere near as good as Lopez? Nobody. Crawford can't be #1 - his resume is shit. Sorry.
I think a 7-5 loss to a very big very fresh dude who has 147 as his ultimate destination doesn't warrant excuses.
This. Plus, X, didn't you also make Inoue p4p #1 or at least better than Loma? At least before he faced a tough struggle with Donaire. Maybe Loma was never as good as originally thought. It could be. However he never seemed as comfortable at lightweight as he did below it. Which again verifies my eternal rant about how p4p titles don't work when the fighter changes divisions. Another thing is, we shouldn't rank guys to top-3 p4p just because they look impressive, if they haven't beaten anyone. That still includes Crawford
Let's be real... Loma's list of wins doesn't set the world on fire. And UGO, I believe both TC and Inoue are better fighters than Loma.
Maybe not set to fire, but Russel, Walters and Rigo, all undefeated, is easily more impressive list than Crawford's or Inouye's
I'll give you Russell Jr, thats it. Postol is EASILY a better fighter than Walters, and in Rigo we're talking about a guy who can make 118. Crawford's win over Gamboa essentially means more than the Rigo win.
