Roy would look like his vintage self fucking up the Nica punching bag. It wont happen though, Taylor will stop Mayorga. Mayorga barely beat a Vargas who had TWO feet in the grave, no way he beats Taylor. Like REED said, if Taylor doesnt stop Mayorga, he should hang em up.

This is one of the most terrible matchups I can imagine in boxing today. I wouldn't have even thought of them fighting one another.

How the hell does Mayorga keep getting these paydays???

Maybe. Maybe not. Much as I hate Taylor, if he fought against Miranda as well as he did in the Pavlik rematch, he'll win. Miranda just simply isnt that good.

But who knows if Taylor will ever fight that well again.

 So Hopkins gets a pass to beat up midgets, IF, IF IF...it's a "money fight" ,...

    a "money fight",...

so if Taylor was getting a bazillion million trillion dollars for mauling on Mayorga, it would be ok then, .........not unfair at all.........let us all please use a little empathy for our lovely Bernard  .

I'm not excusing this proposition, it's shit, I'm just pointing out the terrible double standards used to pamper another one of America's 'golden boys'. That's all.

As it stands, Taylor has the better resume, he likewise has a plethora of undersized victims, ......................but Bernard Hopkins twice, makes all the difference [IMG]

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how people think Taylor fought well in the rematch. He did so little to actually try and win the fight, but typical as it is of boxing fans, because they're shocked he's surviving and doing better than they expected, it in turn translates to a great disparity between actual performance and percieved performance.

Taylor showed better defence and made Pavlik look like the predictable fighter that he is. Even still, Pavlik beat Taylor by a mile and didn't really ever get out of first gear to do it. Jermain nearly won the first fight. He never looked like troubling Kelly in the rematch. Just because he wanted to last.

Same thing happend with Jones in the first Tarver fight...and then the third.

IMO, Taylor needs a get well fight. Miranda might get him out, not well.

Roy tried to win the FIRST Tarver fight. Its the reason that he won is cause he turned it up the last few rounds, and Tarver faded(as always). In the third fight, yes, Roy was just surviving.

But anyway back on topic.... Miranda just simply isnt that good. He's a crude puncher, Taylor is no defensive wiz, but he SHOULD be able to avoid Edison's bombs. Also Taylor can hurt Miranda, Edison's chin isnt exactly iron.

Miranda COULD beat Taylor sure, he's a puncher and Taylor's chin isnt great either. But if the fight comes off I'm picking Taylor.

Now if Taylor fought Kessler, thats a different story. Kessler will get in that ass!

Yes, Roy tried to win the first Tarver fight. Just like Taylor tried to win the first Pavlik fight. Hence the reason I brought them up.

And Miranda is better than a punchers chance against Taylor. Thats a stupid term anyway, because what Miranda is, is a puncher. He beats everybody by punching them in the head. He'd do that to Taylor. It's up to Jermain if he stands up to that and offers resistance, otherwise he'd get run over.

Oh true my bad, I misunderstood what you were tryin to say.

And Jermain certainly would offer resistance. He's no punk, plus the fact that he hates Miranda, he'd definitely want to put hurt on him. The key is him wanting to do damage to Miranda while staying SMART. But brains arent Taylor's strong suit, so you have a point. Miranda does have a chance, but I still wouldnt pick him though.

Unless Taylor looks like total shit against Mayorga, then I'll be inclined to agree that Miranda beats him.

Mayo talking shit to Roy would be hilarious.

Mayo won't beat Taylor in the ring but out of it, it will be criminal how he verbally fucks Taylor up.

The difference is Hops was near the end of his career and had already established his legacy. I believe he had just tied or was close to tieing the record for title defenses in his division. He was at a point where most fighters begin to lose it, so for him to start fighting smaller guys for big money PPV's--something which he's never had his whole career--can easily be forgiven.

Taylor has already had a few PPV's if I'm not mistaken and he came in the game with a big HBO contract. Hopkins didn't have that luxary. That's the difference. Taylor doesn't need Mayorga when there are other big names in and around his division to not only make money against but to tune up against.

Great. I can just see it now. After KOing Mayorga, Taylor then attempts to lure Tzysu out of retirement.

This fight would be an appalling backward step for Jermain. If he is serious about campaigning at 168 (as I think he should as I think he would have some success), he should at least fight a legitimate 168lb-er.

It needed be a GOOD 168lb-er, first time out for that matter, either. :nono: He has lost his last two fights and an easy beat to acclimatise to the weight and regain confidence shouldn't be out of the question. Though I would pick him to beat (the utterly one dimensional) Miranda at 168, I see no reason to rush straight into that sort of fight. I'd be advising him to wait until the autumn before going in that direction.

    But fighting Mayo?

    MTF
