I like Qa'id Muhammad the most, but at 112 lbs, it's a deep division and he's young.

Damn, that straight left is HEAVY. I wonder if that somewhat wild style (well maybe not wild, but free-swinging) will get him in trouble at the Olympics. Wish I knew something about his competition.

Good to hear. Man, I love the internet. I never would have heard about this guy... forget see a clip of him fighting. He looks good.. and more importantly, fun to watch. Even though I'm a Canadian, I usually pull for the Americans in Olympic boxing. Unless, of course, the Yank is fighting one of my boys. :crafty:

"Like I said before" I like Yanez because he does what most ammy's don't do...he fights and doesn't potshot.

It's a shame he's not 30 or 40 pounds heavier, he'd get a lot more notice when he turns pro.

    Thanks Karl.

Yanez win over the Cuban at PanAms bodes well for how he'll fare in Beijing.
-Most people think Asian countries will win some bad decisions..

I do think his loose defense is attributed to his total domination of domestic opponents. When he doesnt respect getting hurt, he's willing to take a few punches to dish out alot worse.

I hear mixed reviews of Yanez pro potential. Other than Carbajal, not too many at that weight have made much money as pros.

Finkel commented that Yanez would have draw on the west coast.
Another manager thinks he'll do well in TX as long as someone has money to import Mexican opponents for the evening. It's difficult to find American opponents at that weightclass.

Of course, winning a gold medal will help his prospects tremendously.

If he can fight at 122 or above he will be marketable. He's young so he will naturally gain some weight and with the right strength/weight management coach he could be fighting there within a few years. If he could come into the pro's and clean out divisions, he would get paid.

I didn't see enough of him.
Offensively he appears to be a wrecking machine, but the other kid was scared to death of him.
I saw very little jabbing out of the kid, but then again, Marvin Johnson who was another terrific amateur southpaw winger that medaled in the Olympics won a bronze medal without one, either.
I would have to see the kid in a real fight before analyzing him as I don't think the other kid landed a punch.
I wish him the best in the Olympics.
BTW: Was that a human or a whale in his corner?

Yeah, that dude is pretty huge, but he gets in and out of the ring impressively quick for his size..

I apologize if this is spamming and not allowed..

Here's a video of Luis warming up before his final match on Saturday. Just flashy stuff.. and a post fight interview with some press..
