My thoughts exactly! I had a neighbor in high school who constantly beat the weekly drug tests his parents arranged for him. His parents knew he was high all the time, but could never catch him. He claimed that running in a plastic suit and drinking large amounts of pickle brine would flush his system quickly. I guess it worked, but I never understood why his parents weren't suspicious about his running around the neighborhood on 100' days wearing garbage bags, and drinking gallons of pickle brine before hs tests.

My guess is that it is basically a publicity move to diffuse the situation, which is rapidly getting worse, and making Pac look worse.

So the NSAC, with dubious authority, steps in and asks for a urine test (which we already know is less accurate than blood tests, and some would argue is in fact useless), and then they warn those being tested about exactly when they will have to piss.

How is this different than what Manny already said he'd do? Way at the outset of this he agreed (without any impetus from the NSAC) to be tested at the first presser and then post-fight (which he had to do anyway)?

So basically the NSAC jumps in to test Pac in the same way he already agreed to be tested, but it's even LESS useful in that it is a urine test instead of blood, and 2 days warning is given. So everybody comes up clean, and this diffuses the situation for the bulk of the media and fans, but of course for anyone who has actually spent any time looking into this it is complete RUBBISH.

Back in my less scrupulous days I worked at a tech company along with a guy who dealt pills. He was hooked on oxycodone, he chewed the Oxycontins like they were candy (2-3 of the 20mg pills at once, every 4 or 5 hours) and also popped the 10/325 hydrocodones maybe 15 a day. One day he was told at 9AM that he would be drug tested that afternoon, a urine test.

With some creatine and a few other items, including drinking an unholy amount of water and peeing every 5 minutes leading up to the test, he PASSED. He passed a urine drug screen with about 5-6 hours notice. Please, please tell me what an announced urine test is going to prove? Isn't the whole idea of the request for "Olympic-style" testing because the existing tests in place (announced urine test) are supposedly being beaten by fighters? So what good does it do to just give them another such test?

Worse, if you read the article through, Bob Arum stated that after he got wind of the HBO video showing Pac get blood drawn 1-2 weeks before the Hatton fight, he felt he could convince Manny to actually submit to the drug tests! So what the fuck is the NSAC even doing? They don't even have any authority to order this as no fight has been signed, which means technically no location is final. What, does their power stretch over the whole world? What if Pac is in the Phillipines? Further, since a lot of the drugs they test for are illegal, what authority do they have outside of an actual fight they are governing, to go in and essentially order a potentially incriminating drug test of two people? What a cluster fuck.

 

That's not the reason I use that name. While I appreciate the joke, I was making a point about my opinion on the testing.

No I didn't get the joke either. I don't know all that much about Lance Armstrong so if he's had his plums removed then that's a shame.

 

Why the assumption he tests positive for pot?

 

That depends what you mean. Many are illegal to possess without a prescription (e.g. anabolic steroids), and possession can land you in a criminal case. Enough product can get you possession w/intent which means you might see 10 years in prison.

Just having them in your blood isn't a crime, but a positive test of high-profile athlete is just inviting a BALCO-style investigation.

True, but some urine tests also test for masking agents as well.
