    No you don't understand.

Pacquiao is literally a public property of the P.I. If he ever became broke, he would have a pension back in the P.I, if not an elected office.

Joe Louis was popular, but his popularity in the states doesn't compare to Pacman's popularity in the Philippines. It's completely different scales.

Being Popular N a 3rd World Country DOESN'T Compare to Being a United States ICON...Joe Louis was America's FIRST Non-White Sports Hero...

So he will hold office in the Philippines? Will that make him rich like he is now...millions..and millions...or just make enough to survive...

Yet Joe Louis ended up destitute, and working as a casino greeter in his 60s. That's sad. He may have become America's first non-white sports hero, but he ended up a forgotten icon handing out buffet menus in Vegas Hotels.

It depends. I could see Pacquiao given an official office (Secretary of Sports and Wellness), or becoming a mayor of a small city (maybe where he lives).

Either way just based on his salary he could live a very comfortable life. Also Pacman has a string of convenience store businesses in Manilla, and outlying provinces. He's invested a lot of his money, though he gives a lot of it away to poor. That's just how his spirit is.

Joe Louis was NEVER Forgotten...Even TODAY, his Name RESONATES...

The Thing is, 1nce he Got BROKE, Nobody Cared Enough to HELP him, Besides Sinatra...1nce an Athlete is UNABLE to Perform Anymore & 1nce he RETIRES, the Public LOSES Interest...Look @ John Elway N Denver or Roger Staubach N Dallas...Sure, they're STILL Icons N those Cities, but the CURRENT Quarterbacks Get MORE Attention...

U're HIGH on that Manny Pac JOINT Right Now & DESERVEDLY So...But Manny's Inspiring THOUSANDS to Follow N his Footsteps & 10-20 Years from Now, some NEW Hotshot will REPLACE him as the "IT" Guy of the Phillipines...

NOBODY Thought Joe Louis Could B Replaced, but he WAS...Believe it or NOT, the SAME will Eventually Happen to Manny Pac...

Yeah there will be other boxers from the P.I that will follow Manny into the limelight once Manny leaves it.

    But you still don't understand.

The P.I isn't like the U.S in that yesterdays news just gets tossed like Joe Louis, or Ray Robinson.

Gabriel "Flash" Elorde was pretty much in Pacquiao's decades ago, and he was very much revered in the P.I as a fantastic champion, one of our best. After he retired, he was a TV actor, and within the public eye until he died. We don't toss our idols onto the street in the P.I like they do here in America when they have no more use for them. It's a different place. I know you don't understand it because you've never seen it, but not everyone gets tossed out like Louis or Ray Robinson once they leave the limelight.

Alabama Man is right. The Filipino culture would never allow Manny to be broke and destitute. He is as close to royalty as you can get.

That's Because there's Fewer ICONIC Filipino's than Americans...But as More & MORE Filipino's Reach that Status, More & MORE of the PREVIOUS Icons will B Pushed to Side...

U DESERVE to B Proud of your Filipino Brethren, but DON'T Act like he's Any DIFFERENT....

    Exactly.

The people know where Pacquiao has to be right now, for us, that's in the ring beating up other great fighters because he gives our people hope.

When Pacquiao tried to run for Mayor, he LOST. But a lot of people assume that he lost because he was unpopular in that region. No, he lost because the people voting wanted Pacquiao to stay a FIGHTER, and not become a politician (which is considered a lot lower than where Pacquiao is now). That's how much Pacquiao is loved in the P.I.

When he's done being a fighter, Pacquiao could very well take the vice-presidency.

Reed you're being completely ignorant and I don't know why. Are you trying to be funny? There's less icons in the P.I than here in America? :shit:

I don't even know how to answer that stupidity.

But hey, maybe you know more about a country where half of my entire family resides. :notallthere:

That's EASY to Say RIGHT NOW, Joe...

But 40 Years from Now, when a NEW Regime Takes Over, Full of People that Only Know of Manny Pac from their GRANDPARENTS, they WON'T Hold him N the SAME Regard...

He'll just B Some Old Boxing Guy that the Grandparents were Crazy About...Manny Pac ISN'T Doing Anything that Muhammad Ali or Joe Louis Didn't ALREADY Do for Black Americans...Yet & Still, Today's Black Youth DON'T Hold Ali N the Same Regard as Cats REED's Age (Or OLDER) Do....Just as REED DOESN'T Hold Joe Louis N the Same Regard as his Grandparents Do...

I don't know how to prove it to you, but Jesus Salud is royalty with the PI crowd. Now think of what Manny has accomplished in comparison.

Umm, no offense REED, but black americans are only 12% of this entire nations population, that's roughly 30-35 million in America.

Pacquiao doesn't represent only part of a nation, he represents an ENTIRE nation, 90,000,000 people, and millions of Filipinos abroad. It's not the same comparison and I don't know how you can't comprehend that.

Exactly. Jesus Salud probably lives better than some millionaires here in the states, and he wasn't even a world recognized champion. I don't think it can be explained to people here, because a lot of them just comment out of ignorance (which isn't necessarily their fault).

No what I'm saying is, the culture is different than here in America. In America, everything is about what's cool "NOW", but in the P.I we have a concept known as elder respect. It's inherent in our culture and that's why our icons are never tossed out into the streets like you guys do here with Ray Robinson, or Joe Louis.

Here in the states you guys have thousands of care homes, and you dump your parents into one and pay someone to take care of them. In the P.I, we take care of our parents in our OWN homes until they die. Like I said, the culture is different. We don't toss out people once we don't need them.

What's the Most INFLUENTIAL Country N the World, Bama???...That's Right, it's the UNITED STATES...

Undoubtedly, Being an ICON N the United States is BIGGER than Being a Filipino Icon...& Just So U Know, "Bigger" DOESN'T Mean Better OR Worse...

It's NOT Like Joe Louis & Ali ONLY Influenced Black Americans...They Influenced Blacks & NON-Blacks WORLDWIDE...Sorry, but Manny Pac DOESN'T have WORLDWIDE Impact...Not Yet, Anyways...He's More of a LOCAL Treasure...

Who's MORE Famous WORLDWIDE???...Muhammad Ali or Manny Pac???

In all honesty, the Phillipines is a 3rd world country still, even with American influence. That's why the mentality regarding Pacquaio is near mythological status and with TV, they can actually see him do it.

I'm not arguing whether Ali is more famous than Pac, or anyone who is Filipino. I'm just telling you the FACTS of Pacquiao's status as royalty in the P.I which means he would never get tossed into a casino like your idol Joe Louis. Heck, we wouldn't even do it to Jesus Salud!!!

You have this pig-headed attitude that is bankrupting the U.S. "We're the best at everything, no other country matters, we can do anything we want" ... until we're broke and the unemployment rate hits 10%. :notallthere:
