Cintron was around the top 5 before he beat him in the rematch, and is still ranked among the top 7-10 welterweights. That's considered quality.

Regarding the comparisons, Margarito has yet to fight or beat Clottey again, but I'd take a win over Clottey in '08 at 147 over a win agaist Hatton in '07 at 147.

Furthermore, I'd take a win over Cotto in '08 at 147 over DLH in '07 at 154. Only one was ranked in the top 5 p4p at the times they fought (you can make this claim about Hatton in comparison to Clottey, but he was ranked based primarily on accomplishments at 140, he certainly didn't look the part of an elite welterweight or p4p'er against Collazo).

It's funny you ask "Who Doesn't" beat Judah, considering that's about the only elite welterweight Baldomir's ever beaten (at the time he fought them)...unless you really think, like dympipiel, that a DQ win over Clottey almost a decade ago means something today.

I think Cintron is a better fighter than Baldomir, but considering Baldomir's status at the time a win over him in '06 means more than a win over Cintron in '05 or '08.

It's unfortunate they likely won't be fighting this year, though it is kind of insteresting to see standad Margarito's held to now, considering he just beat the fighter widely considered the #1 welterweight in the world.

People now want him to fight the #2, or so, welterweignt in the world, and it's seen as a disappointment if he only fights the #4, or so, welterweight in Clottey.

Meanwhile, Goossen is supposedly looking at Michael Jennings or Luis Collazo for Williams if a Margarito fight doesn't materialize.

I'll tell you one thing. If a team of Hatton, Baldomir and Oscar were to have fights against a team of Cotto, Clottey and Cintron. Team Fattonhoyamir would be on the losing end of things.

    I've never seen him fight.

He's British and highly ranked by the WBO.

Williams-Collazo is obviously the more noteworthy matchup of the two, but also has major stinker potential.

Honestly, I'd rather see Collazo-Jennings take place, with the winner then facing Williams. Jennings is your garden variety mando, but I'm a little confused as to the sense of entitlement suddenly being granted to Collazo. A few writers mentioned they'd like to see that fight, and he's obviously HBO's choice as well. Yet he really hasn't accomplished shit since the Hatton fight.

if that ever happens, i guess we can kiss the margarito rematch good bye. i highly doubt that williams would be able to make 147 again once moving up to 160.

N Facing Baldomir-Dela-Hatton, Floyd Faced 3 Guys Who were ON TOP of their Respective Divisions...LITERALLY...Not just "Ranked" N the Top 7-10, but THEveryTOP...

AND, Hatton was Also an Undefeated Lb 4 Lb'der when he Faced Floyd...Cintron was a TITLIST;Baldomir was THE CHAMPION...

All REED is Saying is, CURB the Enthusiasm a Bit, Dude...There's OTHER Fighters w/3 Fight Stretches AS Impressive or MORE Impressive that what Margarita can POTENTIALLY Pull Off...Floyd is 1...Manny Pac's Another...Joe Calzaghe's Another...

Since when was De La Hoya at THEveryTOP of 154 when he fought Mayweather? Maybe you mean that he was the Man at 150?

Hatton may have been an undefeated Ib4Iber but he was by all observations a merely average 147Ib fighter...that matter
Floyd's run was a good one, but margarito's is stronger IMO based on the status of the opponents at the weightclass in which the fight actually took place :kidcool:

Wasn't DeLa the TOP Ranked Jr. Middle @ 154, According to Ring Magazine???:dunno:...Not to Mention the SIZE ADVANTAGE he Possessed Over Floyd...

Floyd was NO MORE of a "True" Welter than Hatton...That Particular Aspect is Overblown by Hatton Fans....

That was just the Ring sucking off the Golden Cock again. DLH #1 at 154 my ass. The last time he beat anyone significant at that weight was Vargas six years ago. I guess that win places him atop the junior middle division forever. Unless you think Ricardo Mayorga was the best 154lber when Oscar beat him.

As for Hatton, Collazo already exposed him at welter. Didn't he scurry back to 140 after that? He knew he didn't belong. Anyone who saw that fight knew he stood no chance of beating Floyd. Zip, zero, zilch.

Its possible he's no more a true welter, but its definite that he was a better and more effective welter and his style adapted a lot better to the weight increase....

De La Hoya had two preceding victories at 154 worth mentioning in the previous 5 years, vargas and mayorga, plus his loss to mosley....its hard to justify putting him on top with such a record

Hatton depended on bullying guys around at 140, he could not fight as effectively at 147 where the guys are stronger than him. That is a fact. It was proven Hatton was nothing special as a WW when he nearly lost to Collazo.

Don't be facetious, I was referring to his not being a "true" welter in relation to his size and physical assets predominantly, as was reed unless I'm mistaken

Was Oscar ranked that high, though? To my recollection, Spinks was #1 - that was the justification for Floyd looking his way prior to accepting the Baldomir fight. Oscar was ranked in their Top 5 at the time, but may very well have been #5. I know that they didn't have Mayorga ranked at the time he fought Oscar, so bolting him to the top spot based on that one win is a tough sell - and this was at a time when Oscar had yet to purchase the pub.

Regardless, Floyd's stretch earned him FOTY honors in 2007 and Margarito is easily the leader for 2008, even if he doesnt fight the rest of the year.

Hatton was at the top of the welterweight division?

With Baldomir, Mayweather fought him at a perfect time.

A win over him any time before or after 2006 doesn't mean much, but it did 2006 because he beat Judah, the guy of whom you just said "Who Doesn't" beat him?

So, are we talking about the man or the suit they're wearing?

I was simply stating a simple fact, that if he fights Clottey he'll have fought three champions this year (and if you want to stretch it back, you can include Williams last year and Clottey at the tail end of the year before it).

So, if Margarito fights Clottey in November, he'll have a two year stretch that includes the following champions: Cinctron, Clottey (2x), Cotto and Williams.

In a division regularly listed among the best, that's something to be noted and commended, IMO.

It still isn't Williams-Margarito II, though.

The fact is Floyd walked in the ring inbetween 147-150 when he fought at WW. That is a SMALL ass WW. Floyd beat Hatton and has done better, because he is better. It's that simple.

I think mayweather would have beaten Hatton at 140 or 147. But, regardless of what he weighed on the night....he beat him at 147, a weight class where hatton looked distinctly average in his sole outing. Mayweather is a small WW and has compensated with his skillset, Hatton is a small WW and has few compensatory skills. If each had to boild down to 140, I think it could have been more competitive, but having the same outcome and being more meaningful IMO.

He hasn´t done shit before, after or during the Hatton the fight. I never understood the fascination with Collazo.

Its semantics but the term titleist works better than champion, Clottey just slipped by Judah unimpressively I thought, its akin to trumpeting maussa as a champion prior to the hatton fight...I would wait until he makes some defences and establishes himsself as a titleist before allowing him a claim as a champion of a division

    He slipped by Judah?

Clottey looked on his way to stopping him. Furthermore, he's been regarded as a top 10 fighter, in talent, for at least a year and a half (at least since the Margarito fight).

Maussa was/is a solid journeyman - in a division not considered as good as welterweight - with one real standout win (two if you want to include Resto). That doesn't quite make up for all his losses.

Judah was crap, I thought Clottey was unimpressive and they were pretty even in rds even though I'll grant that Judah looked on his way to being stopped. I guess I'm not a Clottey fan, he's good enough hang about the top ten and has so, but he's not on the level of Williams, Cotto, Margarito (a spirited but just not enough performance), even Cintron I'd guess. I would pick Berto to take him.
