Tszyu wasn't "shot". To me, SHOT means that a once elite fighter is soooo far gone, that he could lose to a bum. Like when Roy lost that bum Danny Green, or when Tyson lost to that bum Danny Williams. THAT'S SHOT! Tszyu wasn't shot. HOWEVER, he was far removed from the fighter he was circa 99-01. To suggest otherwise is simply being blind.
Hatton only tended to be relentless against guys who gave him the space to come forward, and operate. Against a guy like Matthysse, he'd be more inclined to "box" and grapple more than apply relentless pressure. I'm in total agreement with Jesus. Hatton would be winning the fight based on his better quickness, but at some point, Matthysse catches him with something big he can't recover from.
Hamed just wasn't interested anymore. Too much money & not enough discipline. Tszyu on the other hand was legitimately faded imo, 36 years old and had been plagued with injuries + a long layoff.. Sharmba Mitchell wasn't exactly a world-beater. Hatton's fight strategy was perfect for Tszyu though, Tszyu always needed range to get off & Hatton was right there smothering him with affection for the entire fight
All of this is true, i'm just saying it was the ass kickings that sent them into retirement more so than age.
So seriously, how did Tszyu look significantly worse against Mitchell than he did against Judah exactly 3 years earlier? At the time people thought he looked good, I don't recall a single person suggesting he was shot or "far removed" from his prime. To me he looked just as sharp.
Seriously, it's a stupid hindsight thing. At the time, no one was saying Tszyu was declined. People were impressed when he destroyed Mitchell, and almost everyone expected him to beat Hatton.
