I was a told a number like that at the fight...I wouldn't be too surprised with that, given how much money they went out and spent on this promotion. It's at least in part directed at the negotiations for the next fight, if they happen.

Even if that fight does more, the argument from their side will be that Cotto's more of a draw than Marquez and that a comparison of their ppv buys (for Mayweather and Pacquiao) versus DLH/Hatton/Marquez shows May deserves more.

I'm not arguing it one way or the other...but I think they had that fight in mind when they went about promoting Mayweather-Marquez.

Mayweather took less money to get some of the undercard fighters paid, and GBP did their part to build the drum beat for the fight...and it looks like it paid off.

Just terrific. Built in reasons to have a long drawn out arguing process on who "deserves" more.

That said i don't think it will matter much what numbers Pac-Cotto does. If the PPV numbers were 300 thousand or 3 million, boxing fans be "treated" to negotiations that would cause Donald Trump to cringe.

Maybe in the states he is. Not internationally.

Who gives a fuck. What are they going to do take the fight overseas?

It shouldn't matter anyway because Cotto is going to bust Pacquiao's ass. Of course don't count out the possibility of Floyd fighting Pacquiao anyway.

The reason I don't agree with this is because Cotto is tough yes but I've seen him trying to run out the clock too many times against agressive fighters that he couldn't hurt like Ndou, Mosely, Marg, and to a lesser extent Clottey. I suspect if Pac (whos defence has improved a lot) could survive an early Cotto surge he can up the tempo of the fight and win all the late rounds.

What, you mean like the promoters and the fighters? How can they even turn that to their advantage?

Do you think international TV just takes the broadcast for free?

Okay, now I see your point. Still though how well does that translate for their income when you factor in the exchange rate?

The exchange rate is a floating number and it doesn't neccessarily translate intoa loss of money.

There is a massive international audience for big named fighters, particularly those who operate outside of America. Years ago these kinds of thing were largely ignored, but TV is an astronmically large industry now and there is money to be made in a plethora of ways through the medium.

Guys like Pacquiao, Hatton, Wlad, Cotto and yes, Marquez, draw very well internationally. That matters.

The numbers you see reported for PPV buys are strictly US figures and they are only one part of the story. The audience is a global one in this day and age.

That's THE FAIREST Way to Guage who the BIGGER Draw Is...Pac & Floyd's Buy Rates vs. COMMON Opponents...Manny Pac's More Popular in the Sense that People LIKE him Better, but he IS NOT the Bigger Draw...Not Even Close...

Floyd's #'s vs. DeLa, Hatton & Marquez SHIT on Pac's #'s vs. those Same Dudes...

Sure, the Audience is GLOBAL Now, but the U.S. PPV Buys R Of the UTMOST Importance Because No Other Country CHARGES what the U.S. Charges...Other Countries May or May Not have More INDIVIDUAL Buys, but they DON'T Generate Near what the U.S. Does in Overall SALES...

It's No Different when Euro Fighters BOAST about 60,000 Watching them in Milennium Stadium, yet your Typical Live Gate for a VEGAS Fight SHITS on It, w/Only 10-15,000 in Attendance...Being a BIGGER PPV Draw in the U.S. is the ULTIMATE Leverage for a Prizefighter...
