Gatti was useless at any weight above 140. Just because he didn't take care of himself between fights like Hatton, and put on lots of water weight after the weigh-in, doesn't mean he was some sort of a Middleweight.

People use the Joey Gamache fight as an example without noticing it was actually Gamache who was coming down in weight based on his previous competition, while Gatti was coming up in weight.

It doesn't excuse that Gatti was a weight cheat in that fight, but he certainly wasn't naturally bigger then Mayweather, or even Gamache.

    Floyd-Gatti was a NECESSARY Evil...

It was Floyd's 1st PPV Headliner, but Even Then, he was the B-Side...Arturo Gatti was the STAR of that Particular Card, Warranted or Not...Though the Fight Ended Up Being even EASIER than Predicted, Floyd CAN'T Be Blamed for Taking it...

Also, REED "Gets" Why Floyd Broke Down in Tears that Night...He Did the Same Thing after Winning his 1st World Title, vs. Genaro Hernandez...1st Title, 1st PPV "Headlining" Win...Floyd WASN'T Crying Because he "beat Arturo Gatti", Per Se....He was Crying Because he SHINED in his 1st PPV Headliner...

They'll need something better than Canelo vs Trout to sell me this card. Something along the lines of Donaire vs Rigondeaux.

Otherwise, I'll be just fine reading about Floyd's impressive performance against Guerrero after the fact.

This still not 100% confirmed! Guerrero's manager, Luis De Cubas Jr, claims it's ''close''.

I don't think that fight was "easier than predicted" to most knowledgeable fans

It went exactly the way many of us believed it would... the fight was a ridiculous mismatch

REED Thought Gatti Might @ Least Land "A" Punch of Consequence or Perhaps Pocket "A" Round, @ Some Point During the Bout...But as it Turned Out, the Only Time he Touched Floyd all Night was when the Ref Made them Touch Gloves...

It's GOING TO HAPPEN....Guerrere whole reason for jumping from 135 to 147 was the the Mayweather fight...it's going to happen. Guerrero and his team know that he is fragile as fuck at 147..and will never look as good as he did vs. Berto.

Before he fights Mayweather...but him in against Bradley, Maidana, or some guys at 140 Matthyssee or Rios...see if he doesn't crumble from the ass beating the put on him.. I guess I should've said GUERRERO is fragile at 147. He look like shit in his first fight there..then went on to beat the GREAT ANDRE BERTO. Floyd and his team most really think a lot of BERTO...since they have fought Ortiz and now Guerrero after they beat Berto.

Judging by this post, you don't know the meaning of "natural size" or "naturally bigger." Your "natural size" is "what you weigh in fighting shape," not "what you weigh in fighting shape, minus 20 lbs of water due to forced, unnatural dehydration." Gatti had serious size on both Floyd & Gamache, to insist otherwise is flat out stupid.

I don't agree he was that much bigger than Floyd. He was WAY bigger than Gamache though

Gatti was dried out as hell and had trouble making the weight against Floyd. He had at least 10 lb of mass on Floyd when they fought. Not as dramatic of a difference as against Gamache, but still..

    Yeah, bullshit!

Little 5' 7" Gatti who turned pro as a featherweight was somehow trapped in the body of a Middleweight his whole career?

The guy didn't take care of himself between fights and was even slower then he already was at 147.

He never really got to "fighting shape", because he never trained for shit until the fight was already on top of him.

In the 10 fights before he fought Gatti, Gamache never weighed less then 147 AT WEIGH-IN and came in as high as 157.

Check out Gatti's weights, before AND after the Gamache fight. He was never worth a shit above 142 and barely ventured above that.

Gamache was almost killed against Gatti because he nearly killed HIMSELF to make weight for the payday of the Gatti fight.............and Gatti didn't.

Gatti and his camp were definitely cheating fucks in that fight, and the 140 1/2 he officially weighed in at is most likely bullshit and closer to 145. He really didn't give a fuck about fighting Gamache or making the agreed upon weight. There were definite shenanigans on the scales that night.

Gatti was no gym rat. He put on the extra water weight because he never took care of himself. And yeah, he dehydrated himself before the fight just like almost every other boxer not named Mayweather or Hopkins. Probably even more so, and very similar to Ricky Hatton, in that they were both party animals between fights. He spent more time trying to make weight, then actually training for a fight.

Naturally bigger though, nah! Like I said, he was no gym rat. He wouldn't have been able to stay around the 130 to 140 weight classes for so long, if he was.

He was way bigger the Gamache FOR THAT FIGHT, because Gamache killed himself to come in for the weight and Gatti didn't.

I'm not saying that Gatti didn't cheat like fuck, for that fight...........but he wasn't "naturally bigger" then Gamache. Just look at their weights throughout both their respective careers.

Gatti had "mass" on Mayweather because Mayweather takes care of himself between fights and Gatti doesn't. Gatti had to clear all the alcohol and poison out of his system for the weigh-in, and then swells back up before the fight.

Anybody who thinks Gatti has ever been even a shadow of his already limited self above Junior Welterweight, has been eating some Golden Boy flavored Cornhole Flakes. :nono:

Funny, that LoadedGloves came back to FightBeat after such a long hiatus, just to defend Floyd and his choices again.

So what about "The Ghost"? Is he a formidable foe Loaded? Maybe the best competition Floyd has faced since that Light Heavyweight monster Arturo Gatti, was schooled by "The Master"?

Please explain the correlation between not taking care of yourself between fights and putting on "extra" water weight. The guy had a six pack. He wasn't fat and out of shape. Neither was Hatton, actually. In fact, Hatton showed up in shape AND put on FAR less weight than Gatti did. Gatti just shrunk himself down to fight smaller guys .. same thing Jose Luis Castillo, Travieso Arce, and a shitload of other fighters - who all trained very seriously - have done.

Montell Griffin is 5'7." I guess he & Floyd are the same size. Diego Corrales was taller than David Tua, they're about the same size too.

Gatti was bigger than Mayweather at that point. Who fucking cares though? He didn't have a fraction of the talent that Mayweather has and he would have got stopped if he weighed 200lbs that night.

Montell Griffin didn't start his career as a fucking featherweight. When he was 20 years old he was fighting at 175 already. Gatti was fighting at under 130 lbs. at the same age.
