All this sounds clever on paper and the way you've worded/editted the facts, but if you consider Floyd's career and the careers of those other fighters during that time span given you will see that avoid/duck has nothing to do with it. Certainly not with Cotto or Margarito anyway.

A lot of the guys that Floyd supposedly "ducked" were either protected by Arum or just didn't want any part of Floyd. Hatton at 140 and Shane and his toothache are two good examples. Tszyu is another. Guys like Cotto and Margarito.. come on.

In retrospect it's easy to say "come on" at the mention of Cotto and Margarito, but they and Paul Williams were, as I remember, the biggest threats at Welter when Floyd came up to 147 and he fought none of them.

He did fight Baldomir, Judah, and Marquez at 147 though so I see why he should get a pass.

Cotto was good and that would have been a good fight before Cotto-Margarito, but there's no way in hell Arum would've let him in the ring with Floyd.

Margarito was always a bum, even when he was cheating.

Figures Sly would agree with this overly simplistic/inaccurate historical account.

Ok...Ima going to deal with these ridiculous allegations one by one.

First the myth of Floyd ducking Cotto at 147lbs.

Cotto moved up to 147lbs for the first time in DECEMBER 2006.

By that point Floyd had ALREADY fought Judah (April, 2006), Baldomir (November 2006) and had plans to move up to 154 to challenge De La Hoya.

Are we trying to suggest that Coto was considered a threat to Mayweather at 147lbs before he even fought at that weight?

Should Floyd have avoided fights with Judah and Baldomir and simply waited till December for Cotto to move up to fight him in his first fight at Welter?

Get the fuck out of here!!!!!!!!!

    WBC champion - Mayweather
    WBA champion - Cotto
    WBO champion - Tall Paul
Former WBO champion / soon to be IBF champion - Margarito

These were the threats at Welter in 2007. Mayweather went on to fight DLH, obviously for the pay day. He then fought Hatton. Then Marquez.

You can spin it all you want and maybe "ducked" is too strong of a word, but he managed to not fight any of the real threats in his weight class.

Edit: Margarito was the WBO champion. Tall Paul would later win it in 2007. Margarito would later become IBF champion. Doesn't really change the point.

    Now for Margarito:

When Floyd moved up, Margarito only had Cintron as an accomplishment. He was an unknown unproven mexican banger with a lightly regarded WBO title.

Judah was more accomplished with his recent KO of Cory Spinks that gained him the undisputed Welterweight championship and Judah was far more well known by the fans and the media.

Baldomir gain the lineal and undisputed championship by an upset win over Judah.

These guys had the lineal title and prestigious belts between them and ANY FIGHTER would have fought for their titles and championships and status before fighting unknown margarito.

After those fights Floyd tried to make the fight with De la Hoya, before Margarito would add Clottey to his ledger (making him slightly more legitimate)..and De la Hoya WAS perceived as the bigger challenge at that time, with his combination of PROVEN TALENT, 154lbs and last fight drubbing of Mayorga.

    Margarito??

GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE WITH THAT SHIT!!

    Paul Williams next....

Read my last two posts dude. In 2006 when Floyd moved up..Cotto wasn't even there till the end of the year and in 2007 Floyd fought De La Hoya...who presented a universally recognized bigger challenge and larger significance than facing green-at-welterweight Cotto and unproven WBO slugger Margarito would have done.

Floyd then took some time off...as De La Hoya represented his career accomplishment and he lost motivation. Understandably.

    As for Paul Williams:

He only came into prominence after beating Margarito in July 2007!

Hatton had already called out the semi-retired Floyd after his fight with Castillo in JUNE 2007!!!!

    Do the math...motherfuckers!!!!

Floyd had already decided to take on Hatton BEFORE Paul Williams even became a factor.

He who brings destruction has exposed the revisionist history of the Floyd haters in three simple posts. Who dares to disagree!!

I think you just solidified your victory in the nuthuggery thread.

Everyone who has followed boxing for the last 4 years knows that the boxing public were clamoring for Floyd to fight Cotto, Margarito, and/or Paul Williams.

    He fought none of them.

You can study boxrec and try and cite reasons why Floyd didn't fight them, but everyone knows the fights could've been made, but they weren't because Floyd didn't want them.

People had seen how much of a suckfest Hatton was at 147. Not many people wanted to see that fight. Nor did many people give two shits about seeing him fight Judah OR Baldomir and definitely not a blown up Marquez. DLH was the bigger challenge? Please.

He definitely avoided Margarito Sly. He was offered the fight, he took an easier one in Baldomir for 1 more dollar just to say he was making more taking the Baldomir fight.

"But Baldomir was THE champ" Well the majority of us agreed that lineage isn't the only way to determine who the best is, and you know damn well it was not Baldomir.

This is part of your problem...on one hand you've previously argued Mosley "ducked" Floyd in 2006 full well knowing he was part of Golden Boy and was only being a good partner at the time because he knew Oscar wanted the fight. That's one part of the bullshit revisionist history you've aligned yourself to when agreeing with the above post.

It's always humorous how that's forgotten when it doesn't suit whatever point you're flipping on that day.

Secondly, rather than fight Margarito Floyd bought his way out of his Top Rank contract to accept a grand total of one dollar more to fight Baldomir...Floyd passed on that fight in August and didn't fight Baldomir until that November.

Old ass Shane Mosley is the best guy Floyd has faced at WW. In reality, Floyd has not done much at 147 at all.

What welterweight in his prime did Pacman fight. Pac is always there to fight somebody after somebody else has already done the hard work already.

If Pac beat Cotto when Margarito did then i would give him props.
If Pac beat Margarito when Shane did i would give im props.
If Pac beat Shane when Floyd did i would give him.
There is always a pattern, that Mayweather haters/Pactards just totally ignore.

As for Spinks are you serious. I remember when there was rumours about Floyd fighting him and forums went crazy with hate.

Aside from the fact that Floyd wanted nothing to do with Arum and Arum only likes to make fights in-house, people claiming Floyd ducked Margarito is reminiscent of people claiming Lennox Lewis ducked John Ruiz. Margarito was a bum who had nothing Floyd wanted, Baldomir at least had the belts. If Margarito isn't with Arum and has Baldo's belts, Floyd fights him and makes him look silly, and he gets added to the list of fights Floyd gets criticized for.

I remember when Arum wanted nothing to do with Winky Wright when he wanted to fight Margarito. Obviously people like to pick and choose regarding who ducked who.

Just because a guy loses a fight, it does not mean he is no longer in his prime. Cotto losing to Margarito, Margarito losing to Shane; these losses do not equate to the guy being damaged goods or being out of his prime.

Pac is (or at least was) fighting legit welters. Who cares if they had lost before he faced them? How many undefeated (which seems to mean prime to you) guys are out there for him to face?

You obviously don't understand the difference an impressive win makes for a fighters confidence mentally. Not to mention a beating like Cotto took in the Margarito can ruin a fighter especially if Margarito had the plaster in that fight.

Winky called out Floyd too. I would have no issue saying Margarito ducked Winky. Winky was the man at 154 then.

You really think the mentality of fighters at this level is so low? One loss ruins them mentally?

You might have had a point regarding Cotto if he didn't look incredibly sharp in the early going of the Pac fight which occurred AFTER this beating that supposedly ruined him. Not to mention he beat Clottey after this loss and went on to win a title at 154. Not exactly the stuff that guys who suffer career ending beatings do.
