And likewise for Arum and Top Rank (and I guess Pacquiao, but I blame him less than Floyd) with Pacquiao.

I think behind all the drug testing talk, ego, Floyd being concerned about losing his 0, is the fact that there's less motivation for each side to make the fight when they can still make a shitload with these other bouts. If the fight happens, it's because there's no more milking to do.

 

Dempsey-Sharkey ended somewhat similarly, BTW.

Give it up, Sly. The fight was a sham and the ending is being parlayed into "excitement" and "controversy", in order to make up for, and distract from, the total lack of quality and the over-promotion of the event.

I can't think right of a current boxer who is less of a fighter than Ortiz.

 

I dunno about you but I thought the fight was pretty entertaining up until the annoying sudden ending...

 

Nah..it was intriguing, right up until the time I realized that Floyd wasn't really all that smaller than Ortiz and that Ortiz was still making faces to himself and play-boxing. The entire thing was another HBO-inspired bit of make-belief.

Finally saw this last night...several observations...

1. Floyd didn't look as sharp as what I'd previously read. I don't put much stock in the straight rights he landed simply because Ortiz always gets hit with that shot. Maidana is a hell of a lot slower than Floyd and he landed as clean as Floyd. Same with the Vivian Harris fight.

2. Ortiz definitely didn't need that last headbutt. The first two, didn't bother me simply because laying his head inside as such was designed to avoid the elbows. Floyd always uses his elbows so I didn't necessarily take issue with Ortiz using his head. An elbow can cut and hurt nearly as much as a headbutt. Floyd is notorious for using his elbow and placing his forearm under your throat.

3. Cortez should never referee another major fight.

4. Didn't think Floyd's speed was the same. Mostly threw right hands consistently and he wasn't hurting Ortiz with them despite how often he threw them.

5. I thought Ortiz had just caught up and had Floyd's timing down. It's possible he could have gotten (legitimately) hurt by one of those rght hands but I'm not so sure. I thought the few clean shots Ortiz landed cleanly were more effective than when Floyd caught him clean. I thought Floyd was a little buzzed mid way through the 4th (and recovered phenomenally) and toward the end of the round just before the headbutt.

6. As for the last two punches. I don't take issue with the first left hook. He clearly didn't have anything on it. Loading up on the follow-up...legal but still...bitch move in my opinion.

7. Merchant punked Mayweather. I didn't realize Floyd turned to walk away from Larry then Larry grabbed him by the shoulder to half turn him around to utter his famous line.I didn't have an issue with Merchant asking Floyd a diffrenet variation of the same question seeing that Floyd never answered Merchant's initial questions.

8. shame the fight ended when and how it did...it was just getting good. I didn't find much exciting about the first three rounds.

9. This fight (for me) I liken to when Roy Jones fought Julio Gonzales. Roy clearly won...won every round but at the time I recall saying Roy had slowed down...lost something. I think the same is true for Floyd here.

10. Without Ortiz looking away and completely relaxed, I'm not sure he hurts Victor in the same manner. Floyd loaded up more early on than I've ever seen him.

11. The final result is 100% Ortiz's fault. The kiss was way over the fucking line. If anything what he SHOULD have done is whispered to Floyd, "I'll lose one more point for the same fucking thing before this is over." That apologizing shit was ridiculous.

12. I don't buy the "Victor wanted out of the fight" angle. He was just getting going and I think it was in the 3rd round or so when he finally caught Floyd leaning away and landed a good body shot that definitely got Floyd's attention.

13. I don't get the complaints over how Ortiz handled himself afterward. I thought he behaved sensibly.

14. I'm curious to see what Pacquiao looks like in November. Prior to this I thought Mayweather would have his way with Manny...I still think he wins but it won't be the whitewash I'd previously thought. I'd thought of Manny vs Floyd as the biggest big fight blowout since Tyson-Spinks. I think Floyd has slowed a bit which will make the fight better than expected but Floyd still wins.

15. One a lighter note...floyd's fiance is hot but fuck...why the fake tits? Floyd's got enough money to get her a decent pair. Them shits looked uneven. . Victor's girl wasn't bad either.
