Mayweather beats Cotto for sure. Too fast and too skilled. But Cotto against the likes of Kirkland, Canelo, Angulo, Berto, Ortiz, etc. are winnable fights. Would favor any of Mayweather, Pacquiao(again), Martinez, or Lara to beat him.
Cotto's not washed up. And his only losses were to Pacquiao(P4P the best), and Margarito(Loaded gloves). If he was to have lost to either Foreman or Mayorga, then okay. Cotto deserves a few nice paydays though.
Yeah he's not shot...... Not yet anyway. I think Cotto's a sharp enough guy to know when its time to call it quits. I don't see him going on continously when he has nothing left.
If Berto beats Ortiz in the rematch, I could see a Berto-Cotto matchup being made. Miggy could batter the Hatian hack, then retire.
Floyd would have him driving cabs in puertorico within a month of their fight! A straight up SCHOOLING
"Yeah but, listen yo...... I beat Mosley yo, he lost to Pac. Floyd Mayweather doesn't need Miguel Cotto, yo" :wack: If Floyd had a brain in his atavistic head he would immediately try and get a fight with Cotto for MSG ASAP. Golden Toy could promote it as Floyd doing the right thing, maintaining his drive against cheating, and giving the brave, honourable Cotto a massive pay-day in New York. They could cash in on the sheer good-will that is flowing to Cotto right now. Floyd could get in on it and play the part of a magnanimous suitor who was so impressed by how Cotto settled the score that he could not but give him a fight. Instead the dumb brick will sit there and babble on about how Cotto is nobody, Cotto never beat nobody, etc etc.
Cotto is underrated. For some reason people started this massive bandwagon on how Cotto is shot, as early as the Jennings fight. I remember arguing straight after the Jennings fight that Cotto looked fine, and is not shot at all. Cotto is a tad more fragile and gunshy since being beaten up by concrete gloves, but he's not close to being shot. He looked as sharp as ever on Saturday. I've always liked Cotto and his style, nice smooth, compact boxer puncher. I've also always thought he has a horrible style to fight Floyd though, too patient for starters, and not even a range or speed advantage to compensate.
Cotto was freezing when Jennings reached in with the right hand. It might have been temporary, the sheer "come-back" of it all, but he was definitely tentative that night, and not unfairly so. I always liked Cotto, always. I was pissed when he lost to Margarito. I backed him for the Pac fight. I would love it if he got the Floyd fight.
indeed, what the hell is wrong with these people ??? Cotto's far from shot, in fact, he's quite probably still in his prime. Would be ridiculous for him to retire, he looked very good last night.
Floyd's had better days himself,he's no spring chicken .I think Cottos chances are better now than what they would of been back when they should of fought.
word. However Cotto's retreating boxing style would give Floyd a few problems IMO. The funny thing is, if they fought now, Floyd would be the hunter and Cotto would be the boxer. It would have been the reverse had they fought 4 years ago. Floyd's fast sharp accurate counters would eventually wear Cotto down for the late stoppage though.
Oh please. There is no serious effort being made to get the Pac fight right now. If Floyd has any brains he will cash in on the goodwill surrounding Cotto right now.
I think Cotto will do a little bit of both as far as being aggressive and getting out of range,he's a far more well rounded fighter than he was 5 years ago back when he was just a pressure fighter.I also think he has more of his legs under him than Floyd does.
These are the same people who said pacquiao would steam roll through Marquez ...I swear they think Cotto is Ricky hatten or Victor Ortiz
Cotto has a stable family life, and appears to take good care of himself. That counts for a lot. Ortiz couldn't carry Cotto's tattoo kit. Hatton was destroying himself with booze and had a lot of tough fights {Floyd, Tszyu, Collazo} and Ortiz is just a retard, the product of Ped's and a gullible HBO audience who bought the slick HBO schtick about "functional" weight advantages. Cotto is on a different level right now and UNLIKE Hatton, he is showing an UPWARD learning swerve as his career progresses, while still fighting and beating good opponents. He beat a better Mosley than Floyd did. He dropped Clottey off the jab. Pac couldn't drop the guy. Margarito couldn't. Judah couldn't. If Cotto comes in, is astute, shows that movement and good, high hands, and his jab is on point, then we have a fight.
cotto has always been a boxer puncher since the amateurs. he hasnt learned anything new in the last 5 years. you think the slow footed cotto is going to use his legs to beat mayweather jr ? :l1: if he's to win it will be by applying pressure.
You cant be serious. As Neil said, Cotto has ALWAYS been the same fighter. Nothing has ever changed in him. And he certainly is NOT better now than he was 5 years ago.
He didn't fight like a boxer puncher early in his PRO career,he was just a pressure fighter that came forward.
Cotto has always done very well against boxers. I agree he will give FBF problems but eventually Floyd will take over. I dont think he stops Miguel though. It would be interesting and a well deserved payday for Cotto.
