I just find it strange that report came from Golden Boy and not from HBO. Promoters have sent out bullshit releases before - Fernando Vargas' company once claimed his low-rent PPV card featuring Zab and Casa in separate bouts drew 100,000 buys when it wasn't even 10% of that.

The part that bothers me is that HBO hasn't offered anything beyond "no comment" when asked to confirm or deny accuracy of numbers.

Meanwhile, word is that Dawson-Hopkins pulled in a robust 43,000 buys

Get your Mayweather vision off. Floyd has been avoiding fights with the top guys at since coming to 147.

Pacquiao agreed to testing up to 14 days and then Mayweather changed his demands. And then instead of signing to fight Pacquiao in the Summer, he made the excuse of wanting to take off 2010.

Floyd has shown no intention of fighting Pacquiao.

At worst you have to admit that Manny hasn't shown to be one bit more willing than Floyd to make the fight happen. He agreed to testing 14 days before the fight once the fight was off and Floyd was having legal issues and the fight wasn't even being negociated anymore.

Neither has shown enough willingness to make the fight happen or else it would have happened already. Simple as that.

Regarding the motivation G would have for lying about PPV results - for one thing, Money Mayweather's entire persona is rooted in his being filthy rich. If nothing else, the publication of less than impressive PPV results could begin to undermine his image and make him look even stupider than he already does when he burns $100 bills and buys his 30th car. It's alright if 10 years from now PBF is broke - we can all be sure he will. But as for now, his image and persona depend on the perception that he's inexhaustibly rich.

Agreed. Its all about image and perception. It helps effect the single-most effective sales technique in the history of marketing...make the punter feel that they are missing out on something, like that they need to be in on this, everyone else already is.
