Here's the exact reason why boxing doesn't get press like it used to. The best compete against the best. Happens in every other sport. Players and athletes can't handpick who they wanna compete against. But in boxing, boxers can just handpick whoever they want and build up a resume while avoiding tough opposition.

It's a double-edged sword though. Being undefeated means a lot to the big networks who are shelling out a lot of cash for these fights. The moment a guy loses his 'O' he it means he sucks ass to a lot of people.

If they have losses on their record it's a lot harder for them to get the big paydays. They'd rather go up against a string of mediocre opponents and hope to cash in big should they have to go face somebody who can beat them.

If losing wasn't considered the end of the world, more fighters would be willing take on the best available. The way it stands now fighters are going from hero to zero in one evening.

This is a boxing site and yet you see people here stating a guy should retire after just one loss.

De La Hoya had lots of losses on his resume. He still lit it up at the box office regardless. Didn't hurt his box office appeal any. Fans aren't stupid, at least not as much as they used to be. They can recognize, especially thanks to the internet, which boxers are cowards taking safe fights and which boxers are legit who take on all challenges.
Somebody who doesn't fight anybody worth a damn isn't going to get the respect of the public no matter what the tv networks try to pull. Fans can see through the BS.

De La Hoya is one of the biggest draws in the history of the sport. You can't compare him with the countless other fighters who nosedived in popularity since their undefeated streak was ended.

To the second bolded part; No, often fans can't.

On that lame show "The next great champ" in one episode Oscar and Floyd Sr did some really impressive padwork. It was one of the few moments of that show that was any good.

I tried finding a clip on youtube but couldn't get one.

How 'bout that cat who sells DVD's on how to do the Mayweather mitt work?

He calls himself a "Mittologist"... That cat has women, heavyweights and scrubs doing the same routine. Check it out!

Im skipping through the thread so if anyone answered this im sorry, i just dont feel like reading

anyhow i wouldnt call it an innovation or anything but it serves a purpose. Hes not really holding the pads per say, he holds them, u hit them, he does something to you and u react and shoot off a a combo

so its all about reaction time, but the patterns can be memorized cause youre only really doing so much
