Cotto looked kind of shitty; Trout was not impressive. He'll need an impressive follow up performance to make this one count.
Trout deserves more credit. I don't see where the hate is coming from. Yall are acting like he fought a negative fight, when in reality he gave Cotto a clinical ass whuppin in the last few rounds. Is Cotto the fighter he was once was? Hell no. But it doesn't change the fact that coming into this fight VERY FEW people were picking Trout (I wasn't). He comes into MSG, and beats Cotto going away, and get's no credit for it from yall.
I think it's safe to say that most of what he had left in the tank he gave in the Floyd fight. I said it before and I'll say it again, Cotto took A LOT more punishment against Floyd than people mention. Yes, he pushed Floyd and gave him a rough fight, but he paid a price in doing so. Floyd was countering in between him and busting him up. By the 12th round Floyd had him in serious trouble. Cotto fading is no real surprise though. Cotto's ALWAYS had shitty stamina. In fact, Cotto's stamina is worse than DLH's was. In the end, Cotto's had an excellent career and he was a VERY GOOD fighter. But as Ricans go, class wise, he was a level or even two levels below the likes of Trinidad, and Benitez.
I agree, I alway's maintanined that Trout had talent, but I critisized him ofter due to his lackluster style. Tonight fight was pretty entretaining imo. Most of the credit for that belongs to Cotto but Trout was far less negative than he as been in the past
I told you Cotto should have retired after beating cheaterito. Go out on a last hurrah. Knew this would happen.
Trout beat Cotto with SIZE and a lot of clinching...good strategy by the way...Cotto used it to stop Margarito aggression in the rematch. But while he held he was punching and turning...while all Trout did was hold..and wait for the ref to break 'em..at least for the first 8-9 rounds...later he was throwing more in the clinches..noticing that Cotto was getting tired. I don't see Canelo being afraid of TROUT...he just see it as a USELESS FIGHT.....he won't get any credit for beating him...and the MONEY is not right..plus there are plenty of other names at 154.
:: - For the 'Wald pussy's' ... I remember when that comment was first submitted as just a sloppy typo,.. but Steve, Mex and Punk have progressively made it hilarious.
I was really surprised Trout was as much of a betting underdog in this as he was. I knew going in, this was no stay-busy fight for Cotto. I hadn't really followed much of the lead-up to the fight but my first impression was they were feeding Cotto to Trout. Cotto hasn't impressed me in quite some time. Miguel got beat down, there's no getting around it. For those of you thinking this was a boring fight, I hope you weren't blowing your load during the Berto - Guerrero fight, because there was far more holding in that fight then in this one. Trout would actually push off, make a little space, throw some punches, get back inside. Sure, he'd tie Miguel up here and there when he could, but he's also back out of it when he could, land some more shots and get back in. He was hardly holding anywhere near the rate Berto was. He was also the aggressor for much of the fight. Not to say Trout is any world-beater. I never thought much of Cotto at 154. I think the only reason Cotto is in that division is because he's too lazy to train himself down to 147. He just does not have the frame for 154. Same as Mosley, should never have been up that high, though I think Shane's reasons are a bit different. I think Shane put on too much muscle/bulk and slowed himself down because of whatever "supplements" he was using. Cotto just looks soft to me, at that weight, plus, he's never really been a "dominant" fighter IMO..........no matter what weight class he's at.
Maybe, but was there less holding in that fight then this one? Was it because of the knockdowns...........more drama? The action itself.............Berto flailing around like a Billy Bass on a rednecks wall?
Cotto will get fed to Canelo anyways, just like he did to the Trout. He'll take the payday and retire after that, hopefully. He just doesn't seem to be into the fight game anymore. BTW, watching Cotto in the interviews and after the fight with his family, reminded me of the SNL sketch where all the family members are gratuitously kissing each other in greeting, while unfamiliars stand around being grossed out by the whole thing. ::
Just watched the fight. Cotto looks old, tired and beat. In saying that the scores were a little generous to the winner.
http://www.fightnews.com/ Canelo vs. Cotto still on the table By Rey Colón -The Sport Press Former three-division world champion Miguel Cotto, who has lost his last two fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Austin Trout, today traveled to Mexico with his legal adviser Gaby PeñagarÃcano where he will attend the WBC Convention that is dedicated Muhammad Ali. He will also meet with Golden Boy Promotions to allegedly finalize a May 4 fight against Saul “Canelo†Alvarez, the undefeated WBC 154-pound champion. Word is this bout was already agreed upon and both Alvarez and his promoter Oscar de la Hoya believe that Cotto is a much easier opponent than Trout.
the wide scores tell me golden boy wanted trout to win. it boosts trouts name a bit and also takes down the price tag cotto would command to fight alvarez.
Getting tired of Canelo beating up on blown up Welterweights and Junior Welterweights. Has he beaten a natural 154 lb'er yet?
U didn't think any of the rounds were close? This was cotto fighting in MSG and he won like 4 or 5 rounds total on 3 judges cards
Several rounds were "close", but he certainly didn't win many of them. You think it's a conspiracy because he didn't get "gifted" rounds at MSG? Maybe Golden Boy just didn't care one way or another on this one, since they knew they were going to fight Cotto no matter what happened. As far as Cotto's cut going down..................so does the overall interest in the fight, so everybody's gonna get paid less for this one.
Disagree. I think a lot of fans are going to see this rightfully as a walk-over bout for Canelo and forgo the $59.95. Mexican fans are still going to pay for it, but I think it will suffer in all other markets.
