I don't know how much he weight coming into the fight...but if he was 148 with 7 days till fight that means he held on to that weight for a while, he has no problem making weight and keeping it at that level.

Then those fighters need to suffer the consequences and understand that they need to fight at the weight their body allows them to fight at. But what you are saying is that they are looking for an easy victory because they don't have the skill level to compete against guys that are their size or bigger. Like I said if Cotto entered the ring on fight night against Zab weighing close to 160 then he needs to fight at 154lbs. And I also think that there should be a limit to the amount you can gain entering into the ring on fight night. I'll Holla 5000

if anything, Cotto is unfortunately stumpy for a welter-weight. and it remains to be seen if it will hinder his success there. let's remember, Judah is a small welter-weight - definitely a guy who was better off at 140.

and Quintana, while certainly a legitimate welter-weight, was not a puncher, and not much taller than Cotto.

    And then there's Urkal, a light-hitting career JUNIOR welter-weight.

Cotto hasn't even beaten any big boys or even faced any yet at 147, and among them he's certainly NOT over-sized for the division. Like I said, he's stumpy as a welter-weight.

It will be interesting to see how he does if and when he faces the likes of Tony, Williams, Cintron and Clottey - guys who are clearly full-fledged welter-weights, and certainly will not be troubled by Cotto's size, even if they are by his body punching and punching power.

Speaking of guys who aren't WW's, Josh Clottey fits the bill. he walked in the ring at 170 against Corrales.

Exactly my point. There should be a maximum weight that a fighter is allowed to gain during fight night. How in the hell can a dude be that damn big coming into the fight. That to me is weak as hell. I'll Holla 5000

but your logic goes out the winder the moment you mention Taylor and Cotto fighting him. If we are talking about "normal" weight then the rule applies to everyone. Therefore, if you suggest Cotto is a natural 160lbs then what does that make Taylor who I have met twice and no way his natural weight is anywhere near 160 like Cotto.

it's not fair to make Cotto move up and let everyone else stay where they are Karl because then the advantage you don't like about Cotto you now give to a guy like Pavlik or Taylor who will have a great size advantage over Cotto

    Cotto can beat Taylor, Eaner!
Look at the job Emile Griffith did on an extremely formidable and far more dangerous foe than Jermain, the great Dick Tiger.
Cotto will be middlewight champion when all is aid and done, IMO.

I'll ask you the same question.
It's not reach, it's about timing.

    It's about timing and reach...

But it's also about size. And no matter how BIG you think Cotto naturally is, he will always be naturally smaller than Taylor..

PBF beat ODH 10-2, and Ramirez didnt win a single round against Whitaker. Doesn't sounds to me like someone who watches boxing.

Ridiculous thread. Cotto is not a middleweight and would get crushed if he ever challenged a top ten contender at 160.

Nah he beat Oscar 8-4 (1,3,5,8,9,10,11,12)...in his FIRST fight at 154lbs when he's really a natural lightweight. Now that's talent!

Then Roy should have stayed at heavyweight.

All that weight he had to cut to make the Tarver fight.
