There was an FBI standoff right next door to my house, Valentine's Day 1983... That was crazy... The FBI hurried my mother and my brother, sister and I to our other neighbor's house through like 2 feet of snow... Dad was down in The Bronx at work... guy eventually surrendered after his sister pleaded with him to give himself up ... that's the only interesting true crime happening in my life... but that dude was just a drug trafficker, not some wicked fascinating serial killer like Nobe's Uncle Rich

 

I've actually researched the guy and there's no trace of him ... makes me wonder if he turned witness!

Do your contacts say anything about tax fraud? I'm by no means a profiler but I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is also a notorious tax cheat. Probably using witness protection as a means of hiding from the IRS instead of paying his fair share.

Some clarification after having a conversation with my dad over beers earlier tonight. He was known as "Uncle Dick" (of course), not "Richie". My dad thinks he actually got out of prison but may be living overseas (all conjecture I think). He was a really smart dude who played jailhouse lawyer, which helped him while in prison. My dad was in Vietnam when his guy married my aunt, but allegedly my grandfather tried to break up the wedding because he knew something was really wrong with this guy. Likely this guy threatened my grandpa because my grandpa was threatened by anybody who thought they were smarter then him.

The police interviewed my grandparents, my grandfather told them he knew this guy was fucked up all along, and then he threw the cops out of the house.............which squares with what I know of my grandfather. He was kind of an asshole, and everybody got kicked out of his house at some point or another. My dad said he kicked the priest out who married my folks because he was two sheets to the wind and didn't give a fuck.

My aunt has never said a single word to the rest of the family about him since all this went down. Almost like she just decided to disappear him from her mind and everybody else has pretty much been kept in the dark. To me, a generation removed, he's more like an urban legend then a real person.

No, actually he was relating a story to me about how him and my uncle hitchhiked back home from Yankee Stadium in the early 70's after a double header because they missed the post-game bus back home...............and I clumsily segued into a "speaking of hitchhikers, what about my uncle Dick....what was that about, eh?".

I think he was probably just as curious as me. Like I said, he was in Vietnam when his older sister married this guy, and he also told me he drove her down to the jail he was originally being held at for a visit. He never went in, and she never spoke of what went down during her visit. My guess is that she told him she was divorcing him, and don't ever contact her again.

He thought one of his other brothers might know more then him because he's always digging into the genealogy of the family history.
