One thing I'll say with confidence is prime Hughes beats prime Gracie 8 out of 10 times.....

  3. GeeNOMoney

    GeeNOMoney Im Banned

    yeh he most prolly will

but prime Tyson beats prime Jack Johnson 8 out of 10 times also.

the sport progressed too much to compare the two man

I know jack johnson is different cause he is from ages ago
but its still a fair comparisement cause boxing has been around for ages

MMA is still a very young sport
and Gracie was one of ( if not THE ) pioneers of the sport
so to compare him with someone from a different era
with alot more knowledge and trained in an era where cross training is not only normal but a must to cut it in the sport, vs a pioneer who comes from a time where cross training was rare, and he proved he didn't even need to, until people learned his ( family's ) style

Royce Gracie is my favorite mma fighter of all time
but yes Hughes would beat him 7 or 8 times outta 10

doesn't mean he's a greater fighter then Royce though

    not by far

    .....

Royce is stupidly overrated by your typical fan. The guy's resume is average. He never proved that he was that great. Rickson never proved shit period. Sorry but for me to think a guy is GOAT he needs to go out and do it against World Class opposition. Hell it's not even like Hughes is THAT much older than Gracie, he's just better. :2:

Rickson to me always looked like he was before his time. THAT was the Gracie that was made for MMA, not BJJ. Royce was always a BJJ practitioner, who made his fame in MMA. Rickson was a BJJ man at heart, but the guy had it all and in the dark ages.

He'd have been a terrific cross trainer fighter in today's game, IMO.

He looked amazing against Takada, but who didnt....

I agree though, Rickson appeared to be the deal, but he never really fought enough in MMA

Tell me, who did he beat? Hell even when Sakuraba was whooping his family the guy would never step it up. He may have been great but in my eyes he's more of a mythical figure than an actual great. He simply never fought the competition to prove it.

  14. Explosivo

That wouldn't be fair anyway. Silva is a much larger man than Hughes is, and probably stronger than the freakishly strong Matt Hughes. What makes Silva so good is that he is tough as iron, always in fantastic shape, a terrifying striker with both hands and knees, and is extremely vicious even by MMA standards. Even if they were both the same size, I would pick Silva to win by a brutal stoppage.:sportif3:

Good list. Dan Henderson IS a tough SOB and yes UNDERATED. He gave Nog HELL!

However I disagree with Chuck being so high at 205. If anything Rampage should be on the 205 list somewhere before Chuck. Or at least get HM.

And where's Yves Edwards in the 155 lb wgt class? HM as well at least.

  16. FourHooks

    FourHooks Undisputed Champion

Obviouisly you havent been keeping up with things.....

Edwards lost to Hominick and Stevenson recently

Rampage has been far from impressive

  17. Tam Tam

    Tam Tam "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Rampage has been shit actually. 'far from impressive' is about as far from the truth as "Rahman KOed Maskaev in one over the weekend".

Hendo recently got beat by a tough all around fighter named Kazuo Misaki.....he had beaten Misaki before, but got outpointed in their most recent fight....Hendo has to drop a few spots and 185 might just have to make room for Mike Swick depending on how he looks against the Crow in late September

Obviously Chucks dismantling of Babalu takes him out of my top 5 and moves Tito Ortiz into the five spot...Tam hit the nail on the head when he said not to get stupid with Chuck, because thats what happens

at 170 Diego Sanchez jumps up to 4 based on his performance against Karo, and Mayhem Miller jumps in at number 5 based on his choke out of Robby Lawler, knocking Fitch off of the list, for now at least.

look for more action out of the 155 class in the UFC coming soon.

Funny how differently people view things. I thought henderson was way overrated and needs to many gifts in the past. Haven't been to vocal here about it but Tam knows as I said it a lot to him.

He can be real good, but damn he is inconsistent.

I guess I should have done my homework.....The Miller -v- Lawler fight was at 185, not 170......

I'm aware of the points you mentioned which is why I said "hm" or "honorable mention" for both fighters.

Yves'll be back I believe. Yves' mental game was'nt there for Hominick, something he can come back from and that bull shit cut was what lost him the fight with Stevenson who he handled up until then. He's one of the best at 155.

And Rampage as well IS one of the best at 205. No he has'nt looked impressive lately. But then again he never had the training partners while he was in Japan that he has now in his camp. This along with the cross training he's doing up at Big Bear with Tito Ortiz's camp will develop him more, as well.

His first fight since has been a lackluster win against Lindland. It was'nt typical Rampage but then again who does'nt look average against Lindland? One of Lindland's strengths is that he can nullify what his opponent does best. Besides Page was doing things in that fight I never see him do such as flying knees. Trust and believe..... the "Street Soldier" is coming back.

you say he is one of the best, so I'm guessing you base this one what he has done, yet you go on to make excuses for him by talking about his training partners? Then you talk up his training with Tito and the likes, but then say yourself the Lindland fight wasnt a good one. I dont have anything against Rampage, but based on results and results alone, he isnt a top tier fighter right now, esp not one to be rated higher than Lidell, not based on recent outings.

No excuses were made, simply an observation leading me to believe he'll be better off for it. Yes I talked up the training with Ortiz and his camp because it will help him to improve evidenced by the new techniques he was using during the Lindland fight. The Lindland fight was dull because Lindland made it dull IMO. Not Jackson. But that's Lindlands style and I mentioned that in light of what you said about him not looking so good lately but also to support what I believe to be the makings of a better fighter on his feet and on the ground.

And, until Liddell redeems himself against Rampage I stand by what I said.

eh, whatever bro.....I guess Buster Douglas was better than Tyson too huh?

After that beatdown, how could anybody think differently. Tyson could never beat the Douglas from that night. That Douglas was just a wrecking machine. Although Douglas didn't have much power, he was quite good if he had a fire under his ass.
