As usual I disagree. Joppy may have saved himself $50,000 by agreeing to a bet he probably did only because he was called out for it in public, but he still took an anormous amount of punishment, was beaten badly, embarrassed and made to look like a novice. So the example still qualifies.

Duran vs Leonard II. I mean here you have a guy who is supposed to be a great fighter, a great macho fighter, coming off of his best win over the same guy. And boy did Duran talk a lot of shit. And so we get to the rematch and what happens? He gets so frustrated that he just quits like a little bitch. Has a great fighter ever suffered such a loss before or since? Just giving up and refusing to continue to fight. No mas! That has to be the single most humiliating, emasculating, and embarrassing performance of all time.

If it's not, maybe Duran vs. Lawlor or vs Joppy might be. But there's just something special about that first time...

 

Well, whatever. Your thread. It certainly was a thorough ass kicking. But Joppy, as I remember, wasn't a big shit talker, he was just a tough, decent champion. I think it's one of Hopkins' best wins, but you might as well throw most of the death fight beatings into the pile and call them embarrassing, as well.

 

Joppy shoved Hopkins at the press conference for interrupting him. That was when Bernard decided and declared that he was going to bring the pain..

 

Is that why they made the bet? Do you think it was a real shove or a staged one? I went to this fight live, but frankly didn't remember the shove.

It began when Hopkins (42-2-1, 31 KOs), the World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation champ, rose to reiterate a challenge for a bet with Joppy (34-2-1, 25 KOs). Joppy pushed Hopkins as the Philadelphia native tried to take the microphone during Joppy's turn at the podium.

Frankly, Hopkins, like James Toney, has always talked a lot of shit and rarely delivered. He usually gets his convincing wins, but it's pretty rare to see the promised kayos or beatdowns that are promised every time. He beat up Joppy for sure, but still managed to botch up the $50,000.

As for your bolded point, that is highly incorrect. As an example, Hopkins death fight beating of Tarver or Tarvers death fight beating of RJJ in their 3rd fight I would never throw in here because neither guy put fourth an effort and therefore didn't seem to get embarrased by the beating they took.

Joppy obviously took an embarrasing beating from Hopkins and I don't think people can pay a fee that will just remove embarrassment.

 

De La Hoya-Vargas: Vargas gave a commendable effort in a very good fighter, but it was still embarrassing given all the shit Vargas said.

watching little pacquiao kick the shit out of delahoya was the most embarrassing by far.

 

you talk like a fellow who tabbed pacquiao to win that particular fight, im sure you made a small fortune.

 

Watching ordinary Forrest make prime Mosley scream like a schoolgirl & then embarrass himself for another twelve rounds in the rematch was gold.

 

Forrest defeating mosley was a mild upset, that some people tabbed. the rematch was a rather boring, uneventful bout in which neither man did much. no one expected pacquiao to defeat delahoya, let alone damn near murder the finnoch. the queer landed nary a glove on tiny pacquiao, it was embarrassment personified.

 

What's even MORE Frustrating than the Actual Fight is the EXCUSES Thrown Out by the Duran Lovers Around Here..."He Wasn't Ready"...Oh Yeah, well POSTPONE the Fucking Fight Then...Somehow, Duran KNEW Leonard had a Rematch Clause, Leonard EXCERCISED that Rematch Clause, yet Duran "Wasn't Ready"???...Even if that WAS True, he Could've EASILY Postponed the Fight to a Later Date...Shit Happens ALL The time...

"He Didn't Want to B Bothered w/Leonard's Clowning & Running Anymore"....Oh Really???...If this Guy is REALLY Top 1, 2 or 3 of ALL TIMES, Couldn't he CUT the Ring Off, Maybe WORK the Body to Slow Down the 'Runner', or SOMETHING???...

Facts are a Mosley who was TWICE the fighter in 2002 De La Hoya was in 2008 lost just as convincingly to a fighter not HALF as good as Pacquiao.

people who followed boxing knew forrest was the legitimate number one contender and that is why the fight was clamored for and thrust upon mosley. he had taken on a string of no hopers and put off facing forrest as long as he could.

pacquiao delahoya was considered a joke of a fight, and it turned out to be just that.

mosley landed at least one punch against forrest, and was not beaten to death, i guess that means it wasnt as convincing a defeat.

and in closing, forrest defeats pacquiao at welterweight.

 

Uhh, it was a mild upset dude. Plenty of people predicted Forrest would beat Mosley because they saw their fight in the amateurs and rightly knew that Mosley would always have trouble with Forrest's style. I remember Emmanuel Stewart being one of those guys who went on the record with that prediction. In fact I think I still have a Ring magazine where they asked several boxing insiders who they thought would win. Most picked Mosley but quite a few also picked Forrest.

So maybe you had no idea Forrest had a good shot of winning that fight but lots of other boxing heads around here did.

 

Youd guess but youd be wrong. De La Hoya wasnt reduced to screaming like a schoolgirl or attempting to give his tormentor a blowjob in the middle of the round ::

 

It was a very vast majority who picked Mosley to win. His performance against De La Hoya had people utterly ga-ga, so much so that the knockouts over men even avid fan Neil calls no-hopers had people pinning Mosley in their top 3-5 P4P. Mayorga, who lost to every top rival he ever faced BUT Forrest, highlighted the embarrassment that much further.

Unlike Forrest after Mosley, Pacquiao has only gone from strength-to-strength.

 

So. Mosley fucking lost to Forrest. Why is this such a huge big fucking deal again?
