    Site still doesn't work

REED- by all means start that thread it'd be a really interesting discussion. A 'fights influenced by rings bigger than regulation size' thread might be awfully short though.....Duran-Leonard II.....?

Leonard was flat out sprinting for most of that round and acting like a bitch in a ridiculously gigantic ring, even against a Duran that was clearly not at his best due to the date Leonard (deliberately) picked for the fight.

When both fighters met at their best, it was Duran that outfought Leonard and handed him his first loss. A lightweight moved up to 147 and bullied and beat up the welterweight king.. the only reason that's not humiliating is because that lightweight was Duran.

The ring was definitely the size of an Olympic pool. That said Duran was off and Leonard on that night.

It was a large but regular 21 ft ring, and in the seventh round Leonard's back doesn't even touch the ropes

What about Khan's KO losses at the hands of Garcia and Prescott?

He became a laughing stock after both of those.

There was a rematch clause in the contract for the first fight in the event Leonard lost. This was typical of Leonard. I had an article from a defunct boxing magazine (I think it was KO) where Leonard was interviewed while preparing for the rematch. When questioned about the immediate rematch clause from the first bout and why make the rematch so soon, Leonard's answer was, "I don't want anything bad to happen to him before he can fight me again. I mean he can have an accident and never fight again and I could not live with that." When the interviewer then stated that Duran had the reputation to balloon in weight between fights and that he will spend most of his training just losing weight, Leonard's answer was, "Yeah, I heard that too" and winked.

Either Way, if Duran Truly WASN'T Prepared for the RE, he Could've "Hurt" his Hand or Suffered a "Cut" in Sparring, to POSTPONE the Fight...

The Notion that Leonard FORCED Duran Into the RE, Before he was Ready, is BULLSHIT...

It doesn't matter if Duran was or wasn't 100% prepared for the rematch bout. The truth is that he beat Leonard the first time ONLY because Leonard fought the wrong fight out of his comfort zone style. Once Leonard fought as Leonard was known to do, Duran had almost zero chances to beat him again.

    exactly

Mabe its because Duran hurt him early when he was trying to outmacho him, but Leonard was uncharacteristically immobile in this fight.

Interestingly, you can argue that Duran won the first fight because he was able to get inside Leonard head by acting rudely toward him and his relatives (which made Leonard fight the wrong fight). But Leonard was able to threw the table around a few months later and gave Duran one of the worst mental rape in boxing history.

Yep. Next it'll be "Leonard lost because of his trainer constantly cupping his balls"

So you bought the 'stomach cramps' excuse for Duran's being completely dominated in the rematch?:boohoo:

Which do you think is more impressive, Duran beating Leonard from pillar to post in the 2nd round in Montreal, or Leonard acting like a pugilistic Andy Dick in the rematch?

I truly enjoyed the first fight a lot, but unfortunately all that historians mostly remember about the Leonard-Duran trilogy is the 'No Mas' bout.

    Classic Duran Fan EXAGGERATION...

Duran STAGGERED Leonard for Sure & CLEARLY Won the Round, but he DIDN'T Drop Him...Your Quote Suggests it was a 10-8 Round, Which it Most Certainly WASN'T...
