    Example:

Vitali Klitschko, good style, shitty aesthetics.

Joe Calzaghe: Poor style, good aesthetics.

Exactly!! You know what you're talking about where this topic is concerned. Vitali has an awful looking wa of fighting but his fights are enjoyable.

Frazier is rarely rated higher than Tyson, nor does he deserve to be.

Frazier has a single better win than Tyson, but Mike was the overall better/greater fighter.

You and I agree on this, but many people do not. It's common practice to underrate Tyson nowadays and say shit like he only fought bums in his prime, was just a bully etc. Tyson's left hook was better than Frazier's left hook...and Tyson's right hand was arguably his better punch. Tyson cleaned out the division in the 80s, was the youngest to get a title and the second youngest to have the lineal........don't get me started on Tyson......he doesn't get the credit he deserves.

As a Tyson fan, I must say, Mike has finally achieved some appreciation 10 years after retirement.

And I know exactly why. People watch these faggot Klit sisters rule the division, poisoning the eyes of fans, and realize how special Tyson was.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of fans who are delusional enough to think Frazier would've beaten a prime Tyson. That's Bert Sugar syndrome right there.

Excellent logic. Reduce the matter to one of absolute subjectivity, then disagree with all and sundry.

Let me ask you this (at the risk of sending this topic off on a tangent) is beauty subjective? Specifically, beauty in reference to a woman's face. Subjective or Objective?

Irish's point is valid, you can't just reduce a discussion to "it's a matter of personal opinion" whenever you feel like it. In the case of the aesthetics of a style, there are elements of it to discuss like the way people throw punches etc. If everyone did what you're doing here we could barely discuss anything on the forum...for most things are from our perspective.

While there are exceptions, we are genetically hardwired to be attracted to symmetry in faces ... So there's a general objective there

It doesn't hold up as an analogy to prizefighting especially when one of you is attempting to make it seem that there was anything aesthetically pleasing about Joe Calzaghe

And in order to to support this, you pull one clip out that shows him having difficulty with an aged stinkapoo who had no interest in fighting him beyond the first round.

Bullshit... As I said, I find the rhythmic aggression of vintage Joe Frazier beautiful to watch ... I find the Jazzercising slap avalanche faggotry of Calzaghe unbearably awful, nothing beautiful about it

Fair enough. I do think though that evaluating the beauty in the way a guy moves and throws punches, from a boxing purist's perspective, IS objective. Let's take the extremes to show my point:

Halle Berry vs Rosie O'Donnell....Halle Berry is more beautiful objectively. Nothing subjective about it.
Joe Louis' fighting style vs Ricardo Mayorga's....Joe Louis' is more aesthetically beautiful objectively. Nothing subjective about it.

The two are linked... Why does one like a "style"? Because it is aesthetically pleasing to them

But we aren't comparing fighters to one ideal standard (Louis) ... The topic was aesthetically pleasing p4p fighters...

    Ricardo Mayorga vs Vernon Forrest.

I'd have rather watched Mayorga (pre tito destruction) fight any day, instead of Forrest, Mayorga was aggressive and always going for the KO. Exciting fighter. Big brass balls! Forrest was the typical boring textbook boxer.

However...only a madman would say that Mayorga's style was more aesthetically pleasing than Vernon Forrest's.
