'Led Zeppelin members face trial to decide whether they stole Stairway to Heaven chords'

'Led Zeppelin's lead singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page must face a US jury trial over whether they stole opening chords for their 1971 classic Stairway to Heaven.
In a decision on Friday, US District Judge Gary Klausner in Los Angeles said the song and the 1967 instrumental Taurus by the band Spirit were similar enough to let a jury decide whether Plant and Page were liable for copyright infringement.
A trial is scheduled for May 10.'

Have to admit, they do sound very, very similar, but why wait until now to prosecute?

I mean...it was gigantic back in the 1970s...and has been ever since...

 

There's an obvious similarity, certainly the chords and the key of A minor

Randy California joked about the similarity when he was alive but I think it's telling that he never cared to pursue a lawsuit about it during his life (and there were definitely times he could've used the cash)

Either way, the original Spirit was a terrific band
