  1. See...here we have a problem.
Chris Squire of Yes blasts this guy out of the water, bass-wise..but if I'd posted a version of his bass-classic 'The Fish (Schindleria praematurus)' - you be all over it, badly, like white-on-rice. :fightme:

Slice N Dice Big stiff idiot

    But not true

That isn't a solo. It's the subversion of the idea of a solo, done with technical skill. Beefheart was real punk.

    Doobie Brothers.

    /end thread.

Incidentally, Jeff Baxter designed the Patriot missile system or some shit. He had no formal training or education, just dreamed it up and wrote about how it could work.

He's now an esteemed Pentagon weapons consultant.

And Michael McDonald designed the F22 Raptor using crayons.

  5. Excellent!!
The Doobie Brothers are good. (even cdogg will atest to that)
'Toulouse Street', 'The Captain And Me', 'Stampede', 'Minute By Minute' - all great albums.

However, one of the best quotes I heard about this band was by Dave Lee Roth: "you know what freeze-dried coffee looks like? That's what The Doobie Brothers sound like."

  6. Punk....good one about Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter - I never knew about that!

    Pretty weird eh?

The Doobies were a tight band, despite some really shit songs amongst some decent ones.

  8. ...and unless they had Little Feat opening for them.

  10. Strange...I was watching this last night...however, I much prefer 'The Passenger' from the same concert:

the Doobie Brothers were competent and yawn-inducing

Jeff Baxter is one of the most idiosyncratic, awesome guitarists ever... he's also a nazi

Skunk can sure play, but can also deal with missile defence platforms simultaneously, thus adding considerable value to his overall musical offer.

Wonder if he thought up that missile defence theory whilst being pelted with bottles during a Doobies tour?

I like this little mini-doc on the Making of Steely Dan's "Peg", ironically one of my favourites of theirs.

  17. Is this part of that documentary series called 'Classic Albums', where they focussed on the whole making of 'Aja'? :dunno:

never cared for them, either, man

it's okay, but nothing I'd ever own

  21. Me neither.
I had a phase...years ago....when I used to buy-up loads of albums by artists I'd never heard....and of course, this was pre-Internet days so you couldn't do any research.
Little Feat phase came and went pretty quick after 5 albums. :dunno:

yeah, the true believers will tell you there is some sort of Americana stew at work there, a sort of intellectual hybrid of the Meters, Dr. John, etc. ... just sounds like predictable white southern boogie to me... there are worse things, but I never got it

  25. You can get it on DVD (as with all the series)

    As a result, I'm back on a 'Dan-phase! :hammert:

Yeah it's something alright, totally unique. But Graydon is one hell of a musician overall, been there, done that.

Channel Bittorrent has it too, the whole series in fact, and down she comes....

  28. The funniest one is Judas Priest's 'British Steel'...unintentionally funny, that is.

talk about stretching the meaning of "Classic"

that music is "Classic" if you are an aggressive poofter or a tone-deaf auto enthusiast
