Intro - First of all I thought it was a very good fight even though both guys looked a bit sloppy in the begining. I found myself rooting for Cal not because I picked him but because I likened his situation to Mosley's. Calzaghe - Like Reed said he really impressed me with this performance. I thought at first he fought stupidly and was not respecting Kessler at all, but once he got down and started boxing he did great. I got nervous because he got visibly tired in the 9th while Kessler still seemed very dangerous but after that rd Cal looked better. The thing that impressed me the most about Cal was his ability to adapt to Kessler, when Kessler looked like he was about to start taking over. Also his chin and toughness, like when he spoke about Kessler's power being strong and him having to soak it up and press on. He also really impressed me with his defense and foot work. The major thing I dislike about Cal is his stupid showboating, I think it's beneath him and detracts from his performance. Kessler - I really underestimated him. He looked like he was throwing superbly strong shots and I thought he would eventually hurt Cal. Kessler should have went to the body alot more. His body shots looked lethal and had he went there consistently I'm sure even Joe would have folded eventually. I liked how Kessler never gave up and didn't wait til the last rd to try to rally. I thought he started as early as the eighth. Conclusion - Calzaghe showed what a better well rounded fighter, with toughness, experience, better footwork, better defense and an outstanding chin can do. Expect to see the same next week. This is not the time of the young lion. This is the time of halting the pretender. Calzaghe is the first and Mosley and Floyd will do it next.
