Yeah but their revenue is limited when it comes to parking, concession stands, suites and any type of advertising. Parking is like 25 dollars at the staples center and the clips see a fraction of it. A small fraction. Their current TV deal runs out in 2015 and it only gets about 20 mil a year. This guy should have paid half that price and used the other billion for a brand new arena where he can get much more profit from not only basketball related events, but non basketball related events. Right now, he gets shit from the Staple Center. Had he thrown in 4% on any revenue form the new arena for the next 10 years into the deal offered to the sterlings, , he could have made a shit load more money in the long run.
parking? have you been to staples center? that is hardly a money maker. parking is very limited there. the TV deal running out is a great thing, a major part of the allure to buying the team. they are in line for a BLOCKBUSTER deal
The staple Center owns lots all around it. It's not just the front. There is big money to be made in parking. BUT if they owned their own arena, they would make money on parking for non basketball events. Parking is huge business downtown at those events.
where would they build this new arena of yours? what you are saying is not feasible. the next highest bid was 1.6 billion so you are not getting it for any less than that. the league would need to approve a new arena, the city, etc. it would take years and years. owners do not just build arenas out pocket without city funds
The arena can be built anywhere. And the next highest bid means shit when you are offering 4% of revenue on all with a new arena. Again, the microsoft offered Sterling 1 billion with the promise of a new stadium and 4% from the revenue of the new stadium for the next 10 years, the deal would be signed yesterday. And if you think LA wont approve a new stadium, you are out of your mind. Any owners that is willing to spend 2 billion on a team will certainly spend 1 bil on a team and 1 bil to build an arena. Staples center cost about 375 mil to build. This ballmer guy could pay for it, no problem. Again, how can you even argue my point. My point makes perfect sense. How the hell will this guy make a profit from this team anytime soon? It's impossible. They make shit from the staples center, compared to making a shit load from basketball and all events not involving basketball.
your math seems odd to me. so rather than a billion dollars sterling should take 4% of revenues for the next 10 years. that means he'd be getting 100 million or more on average each year. 100 million is 4% of 2.5billion. you think this new arena would bring in 2.5 billion annually in revenue??
Not at all, but it could get over 300 mil annually if done right on sports alone. Not including other events. The 4% is just a number i threw out there. So is the 10 years. It could be higher or lower. But in the end, this ballmer guy would make is money back much quicker and actually have some profit if he owned his own arena. Right now, i cant see how he makes a profit from this deal anytime soon. This is why many investors are shaking their head at this deal and are looking at it just as some hobby this guy is purchasing.
i dont see how it could get 300 million annually on sports alone. staples center has 4 professional franchises there and concerts galore and still barely gets that.
staples center gets 300 mil on sports alone. And of course i would expect the new arena to draw in other sports. that would be the fun part. One thing about LA is that the new shit always attracts the most buzz.
my point is if you are going to do this shit, at least have a plan to make money. if you just want to throw money away, fine.
San Antonio's depth has been telling tonight. But Westbrook has gone off tonight. Even with some of those bailout calls.
First half was good. OKC's problem is that their whole offense consists of isolation with either Durant or Westbrook. I think Durant is tiring and Westbrook is the one carrying the load while Pop rests his best players. Even Ibaka has not been that effective tonight.
okc needs stops so they can get in transition. or turnovers. if the spurms dont turn the ball over and make some shots they can close it out in OKC
The key is holding both Westbrook and Durant under 30 points, for me. None of those other guys are gonna light up the score board exactly. And if fatigue sets in like it did tonight, then yeah there's no doubt San Antonio can put an end to OKC's run on Saturday night.
OKC's ISO-heavy offense would get abused by Miami's defense. If we want to see an exciting finals (Like the previous one) Spurs must win.
Yeah and Bosh takes one of Ibaka or Perkins out of the paint every time, and that just makes it TOO EASY for Miami to run the pick and roll with James and Wade. It it would be the same outcome as 2012. San Antonio is the only hope in preventing these guys from threepeating.

Are this type of series common (or have they ever happened) that EVERY game is a blowout but the winner changes?
Seems unusual to me. You might have series where a much better team is blowing out their opponents at home but losing nail-biters on road, but I don't recall anything like this. Others on here, who know better then me can chime in. I could be wrong.
