I never understood superstar players using team medical doctors to check and work on their bodies. An average player? Understandable but if you’re a superstar you should be seeing the best knee guy, achilles guy or in Kawhi’s case, best hamstring guy.

It makes no sense for a superstar to be cheap and go with team doctors when they have the money for specialist and that can possibly be the difference in whether they continue their career at a superstar level or not (see Dereck Rose).

I never heard for sure the Spurs insisting on Kawhi taking a discount. If they did fine, but at least Kawhi had the option of saying no. Instead he gets his reps to bitch all over the place and never once makes his own public statement and that more than anything is my issue with him.

I can deal with him turning his back on the organization, betraying his teammates and bad mouthing the entire city if he feels the need. Just once though I’d like to hear it from him so we can know how he actually feels because to me he comes off like a little bitch hiding behind his team or maybe he’s too afraid to make his own decisions and just doing what he’s told for all we know.

Carmelo to the Hawks. He will be instantly waived. Schroder and Mike Muscala to OKC. I would have preferred Jeremy Lin to Schroder but I’ll take it. Just hope that Westbrook isn’t forced to choke Schroder out at some point if he starts tripping as I’ve heard Schroder is a bad locker room guy.

Mellow may wind up with the Rockets after all whereby if history is maintained he’ll look a lot better offensively than he did in OKC.

Can’t believe the Thunder gave up a protected 2022 first round pick to do this. They could have just waived Melo on their own.

Which they could have done without trading Melo and certainly without giving up a first rounder. I don’t get giving up the first, unless Presti saw the potential to seriously upgrade their backup point guard position which I certainly ain’t mad at. Schroder is a huge upgrade over Felton who is now rightfully regulated to third string.

I guess I shouldn’t be too worried, Presti is probably top three among GM’s in the league and will find a way to get a first round pick back.

Yup, this is the NBA, not the NFL. Only way to lose the salary on the cap space is to foist it on to somebody else. With somebody like Melo at this stage of his career, it's gonna cost you resources to do that.

if it were a 2020 first rounder then i could see the uproar from thunder fans since that is the year when the NBA will start allowing high schoolers back into the draft and it will be stacked. You'll have all the top high schoolers from 2 years in that draft.

OKC was already discussing buying Anthony out which he likely would have agreed to since he didn’t want to come off the bench. Even had he refused, OKC could have still stretched his contract and either move would have saved them nearly the same amount in luxury taxes.

So I stand by my statement that OKC could have saved millions without trading Anthony. I didn’t say it was the best course of action, I was merely pointing out that they weren’t in a no win situation if they couldn’t make a trade happen.

Obviously this trade works out the best and it’s proof that other than Golden State and Boston OKC has the best GM in the league.

looks like REED has a valid point regarding the spurs medical staff. not only in regard to leonard. now it comes out they may have misdiagnosed Danny "SOMETIMEY" Green's injury as well

On the flip side of the trade was how DeRozan felt betrayed by the Raptors.

If I'm Kawhi I have my eye on that as well. It's a clear indication the Raptors management can't be trusted either.

Hey the GM at least apologized and can you really point to any team out there that wouldn’t have made a similar move? Especially with teams like Toronto who for the foreseeable future have no other shot at attracting a superstar like Kawhi. Toronto’s only chance is to try to do like OKC did with George and hope the great city, fanbase, team structure and management combined with the extra 40 million only they can offer will be enough to convince him to stay.

Even if it fails they still got rid of a guy who was paid like a superstar but wasn’t really getting them to the next level.

With the way the salary cap will continue to rise and based on other guys deals, the $27 million per season for DeRozan isn't a bad contract. Mike Conley Jr. is making $30 million per season. Nick Batum is making $25 million per season.

REED's post is spot on. The Spurs weren't giving Kawhi the super max and while can give him an additional $40 million (if your number is correct) he could go to L.A., make less and have one less year on his contract. If he's still a top 5 player that next contract plus being in L.A. could net him more money in the long run.

DeRozan's point was he's upset because he didn't think there was a remote possibility he'd get traded based on conversations he'd had with the GM. The fact the GM apologized for lying to him means nada. We have one player who took his career in his own hands and he's getting shit for it. Another "trusted" the organization and he feels betrayed. But Kawhi is the bad guy.

I think it does mean something that the GM apologized. Most of them won’t even go that far. I don’t recall Ainge giving Ishaia Thomas a public apology. I also disagree that San Antonio wasn’t giving Kawhi the supermax.

Obviously no team should be giving players 100% assurances they won’t be traded. If they do they’re lying because no player in the league is untradeable.

Teams and players have both seen over the last couple seasons how little loyalty there is in sports, especially the last few seasons, so for either one of them to cry foul these days is bitching at the tit IMO.

Speaking of GM’s, Philly has hired ex player Elton Brand as their new GM. I’m not sure how wise it is to elevate a guy like that without any assistant experience, unless you count him being the GM of your minor league team, which I absolutely wouldn’t.

On the other hand Brand was supposedly a pretty smart guy in college and on the court so I wouldn’t be shocked if after a rough start he does a good job. Of course that’s all assuming he’s giving a chance to make a few missteps without getting fired.

In other news Jimmy Butler has asked for a trade to either the Knicks, Nets or Clippers. After Tom Thibadeaux signing Luol Deng caused a bunch of Minnesota Timber”bulls” jokes you can hardly blame Butler for wanting out of an organization that has once again fallen back into laughing stock status.

Towns Strikes REED as the Type that DIDN'T Have Luck w/the Ladies UNTIL he Became a Professional Athlete...Money Makes ALL Men "Better Looking"...

That Said, There's an Ever Present NERDY Quality to Towns that Certainly CAN'T Endear Him to Females Much, In Spite of His Finances...

& Unfortunately for Him, Looks Like he Tried to Turn a HO Into a HOUSEWIFE...That Said, it's Still SORRY for Jimmy Butler to Do a Teammate Like That...

Towns Needs to Call in a Favor to Matt Barnes to "Handle" This For Him...

Towns definitely has a nerdy, Tim Duncan-esque type personality it seems. still, Im sure he got plenty of pussy thrown at him in high school and college being a star athlete.

his problem is that he lacks the toughness defensively duncan showed throughout his career.
