Did you watch the show? I mean all they talk about is jesus, jesus, jesus but theres almost no reference to his teaching, or ethical guidance or anything like that and no interaction with any churches. Their only bible quotes were the parts of the old testament describing earthly power as evidence of god's favour. To me it was more akin to something like skull & bones and the constant jesus talk was just the brand of glue used to bind people's loyalty to this tight knit unit as it worked through the halls of power. Im only two episodes in tho, still a blind man grabbing parts of the elephant at this stage - is it a wall, is it a snake, is it a tree? Definitely something big and weird.

I knew it was going to be bad going into it. I watched it anyways. We all have to find things that make us laugh.

Did I say it was? I said founding fathers.

..........and if you want to get technical, both Jefferson and Madison proposed the way they worded the 1st Amendment, strongly alluded to it in later writings of theirs.

LOL, no I haven't. I don't have a lot of patience for the "Conspiracy of Power" genre angle. It's not that I don't think there's validity to it, it's just one of those things that tends to be overwhelming if you think about it too much. I don't think I could stomach 5 hours of that being rubbed in my face.

I could watch a Scientology documentary and be fascinated because I know I'm in no danger of coming under that sphere of influence in my day to day. This all encompassing stuff, is just a little too much for me.

Really, how did they do that? Religion was a huge part of the government.

Separation of the two powers. It's there. It's not hard to find. Don't really care to rehash all that right now.

I probably shouldn't have even brought it up if this doc is basically about a bunch of moonies shouting the word "Jesus" to decades worth of politicians, in order to keep them in line with the present power structure.

Also, whether the idea of "Separation of Church" and "Separation of Religion" are one and the same, is a whole other can of worms I'm not exactly interested in broaching right now.

Yeah there ain’t shit about keeping religion out of government. There was prayer before Congress sessions. No establishment of religion didn’t mean separation of church and state. What Jefferson wrote in a few letters shouldn’t be applied to anything. But if we were to take his letter at it’s intended purpose, it was actually to protect the church from government. Not to stop religion from being in government. Either way, religion was definitely something the founding fathers wanted deep in our country.

It was supposed to be a two way street. Saying a prayer and having a church effect actual policy are two different things. If you have a quarrel with Jefferson and Madison's own interpretation of it, take it up with them. I'm sure they'd like to hear from you.

Another thread, another time maybe. I should never have brought it up.

Nah. The letter was written to the church. Telling the church about the government staying out of the business. Jefferson was in favor of religion in government. In fact, felt it was needed.

I watched Triple 9 yesterday which was kind of a waste of time. It wasn’t horrible but wasn’t good either. It was kind of like watching a 90 minute music video. All style and no substance. 4.5/10. I recommend...not watching it.

We are being controlled by the powerful elite who in turn are being manipulated by extraterrestrial entities. We are just cattle.

The only thing the founding fathers wanted was for government to stay out of the church. Not the church to stay out of government. God was a huge part of these founder's lives and they spoke about it openly.

An emphatically stated opinion is still just an opinion and yours is supported only by revisionist cherry picking by your sources (whose motivations are the same as yours - to make sure as much Christianity as possible leaks into the mechanism of the state)

Church was the wrong word. Religion is more appropriate. The founding fathers, who pretty much all believed in a higher power, knew that religion was important for society. They often spoke about god and religion in their writings.

Actually watched Five Deadly Venoms today. Although I skimmed through most of it I still probably sat through a good 40-45 minutes of it and I did not feel good about myself afterwards. Terrible terrible movie in every way and it has really aged horrendously.

The experience was pretty ridiculous and the missus was stupefied by the whole ordeal. At one point she asked me if it was a comedy and even now I’m not sure if that was sarcasm or not.

I agree it hasn't aged that well, but it's still a good martial arts classic. A one time must watch for all you kung fu geeks.

I disagree. If you didn’t catch this as a kid then I believe you missed your opportunity to ever find it enjoyable. The story and the character’s powers were the only redeeming qualities. The dialogue was bad and the fight scenes were atrocious by today’s standards. You’re talking old school slapping arms no technique fights that were so bad I pretty much fast forwarded through everyone after watching for a couple minutes. I couldn’t stomach the drawn out final battle and completely fast forwarded through that whole fight.

Here’s the dumbest thing of the whole film and spoiler ahead. Snake, and Centipede are fighting the two lizard style good guys while scorpion is watching. For no reason the Scorpion kills the snake and convinces Centipede to help him defeat the two lizards otherwise the lizards will gang up on them separately. Well idiot scorpion, if you hadn’t killed snake for no reason and had jumped in the fight a long time ago instead of just watching, it would have been three against two.

I couldn’t tell you, I’m actually no longer a fan of the genre. I only watched this crap because I’d forgotten the major points of the story and wanted to see that again. I have the same want for the Kid With The Golden Arms but I cant find that movie anywhere.

I started on that one too although it was a halfassed watch where I fast forwarded to the good parts. I half watched a couple more episodes and although it is a cool concept I lost interest. I just can’t take a Korean tv series serious.
