If you’re going to keep bringing up the Wright fight...

I’ve never seen his fights with Curry. Did he struggle? I’ve seen his fight with Palomino but don’t really remember it. I’ll watch it today. Did he struggle there or was the SD unjustified?

He beat Palomino by a good 5 rounds... not a close fight

He fought like a lazy bum against Bruce Curry

He was inconsistent and didn't often train seriously, everybody knows that. It was constantly talked about when he was an active fighter. What's your point?

For some odd reason, many people claim Palomino arguably won the Benitez fight. I would say to those people... never score a fight again. You're retarded

Benitez beat Palomino by a lot.

Palomino didn’t come close to beating Benitez.

It was basically Larry Hazzrd who claimed the sun was in his eyes that scored for Palomino

The fight was close for about six rounds ... Palomino was a terrific fighter... but down the stretch he simply couldn't land on Benitez

Fresh off his brilliant performance against Chapo, Chavez showed how to deal with a tall, awkward southpaw. Never mind the HBO commentary. I thought Chavez brilliantly executed Aguilar.

I hate cliches, but if we wanna talk “Mexican style,” JCC was the epitome of that.

The footwork to cut the ring off and control distance, the subtle pivots and turns to get the angles for his punches, the head movement to slip the incoming shots, and the ability to shorten his punches inside to the head and body for maximum power.

    Chavez was incredible.

It's only fitting after the debate we had regarding him last week, that this week I chose a Gomez performance.

This is Gomez at his VERY best. He doesn't get credit for how terrific of a technician he was.

Really takes apart Gomez in surgeon-like fashion.

I’d definitely say the title of the GOAT Puerto Rican fighter is between Gomez and and Ortiz, though Gomez is more beloved on the island.

I definitely long for the days when the island was churning out top talent like that but they seem long gone now.

The Aguilar fight was definitely one of Chavez's best performances.

    Wrong question

    Who beat him like that?

He fought some other good fighters like Frankie Randall, Espana, Sammy Fuentes but none of them did that to him... he was a 5'11 busy southpaw, a weird opponent to deal with... Chavez busted him up

I don't think the guy was ever even stopped until he was at the end of his career, except for this fight

Chavez has strangely enough become somewhat underrated. I think people have forgotten how great he really was.

And back then I hated Chavez.

He's been referred to on this, a supposed boxing site as both a "solid pro" and a "plodder"

    Ludicrous

As good at applying pressure as any fighter I've seen and a guy who landed clean, hurtful shots with a frequency that is downright incredible...

Definitely. But his performance against Aguilar was not brilliant. Best part of it was his feinting with the right hand and then throwing the left-hook. But it looked weird when he did it because of Aguilar being a southpaw.

Overall, I think Chavez is rated correctly. Of course, theres probably retarded casuals who underrate him, but most hardcores are aware of how good he was.

Theres greats who are barely acknowledged or known about nowadays, I would consider THEM underrated.

Chavez is a boxing legend. He's not underrated.

On a site like this, the existence of opinions like that with regard to a guy this unassailably great tells me he's being undersold a bit

    I didn't say he's the MOST underrated

He’s not quite as disrespected as Joe Frazier, but I’ve seen casuals and new generation fans say things like”Loma would school him.”

Still not as bad as people saying “Wilder and AJ would KO Frazier.”

That's more a case of Loma being absurdly fucking overrated, which I've said many times.

Those same idiots believe Loma would have beaten Duran and Floyd... I've heard Loma lovers say as much.

An underrated great to me is someone like Mike Spinks.

At least Chavez is considered a legend.

Spinks is considered a Tyson victim, instead of the all time great that he was.
