So thus far we've been only been posting throwback performances from legends/HOFmers.

Today, we're gonna focus on a guy who was an excellent champion, and probably deserves the HOF... Lionel Rose.

Check out his beautiful title-winning boxing clinic of the great Fighting Harada.

Granted, yes, by all accounts Harada was killing himself to make 118 coming into this fight, but take nothing away from Rose - this was a great boxing clinic.

    Guy had a beautiful jab.

You could see why DeJesus gave Duran so many problems.

Esteban was like a sniper. You could almost see him taking the mental picture of the target with the right distance, position/angle, and the accuracy when he fired off his shots. Once he got into his rhythm, it was like he couldn’t miss. He was no slouch defensively, either. His head movement, parrying , step arounds, pivots, and roll outs show he was no easy target and it is a testament to Roberto Duran that he was able to open this man up the way he did.

A true HOF worthy fighter who isn’t in.

Yeah, I've seen that fight several times.

DeJesus pitched a shut out against Guts.

Gotta be the second best Puerto Rican lightweight behind Ortiz.

I'd favor DeJesus over Camacho and Rosario anyday.

Nothing needs to be said about Arguello’s brilliance since it’s been discussed over and over again.

This fight may as well be titled “How to Take Apart a Southpaw 101.” The way Arguello opened him up and then went on to finish is the stuff to show young fighters.

I've been falling off lately on these Throwback Thursday posts. Yesterday, the kid was sick, so spent most my day attending to that.

For this week, I'm gonna do.... Ismael Laguna vs Mando Ramos.

Love watching this clinic! Laguna was beautiful to watch when he was. Watch him take Ramos apart, and slice him to ribbons.

Ramos relied heavily on a jab to set things up and that meant he was jabbing with a jabber who was twice as fast as him ... Laguna sliced him up

Had to bring this back. Been binging on some Benitez fights and this is a stand out for me.

One of my favorite performances ever.

For me, the Duran fight was Benitez's absolute apex performance, but Palomino is either his second or third best performance.

Can't sleep on the Cervantes fight, where he schooled an all time great at 17.

But Benitez was more polished and refined in the Palomino & Duran fights than he was against Cervantes.

Chapo doing his thing. Man, that guy could punch. And his hand speed caught his opponents off guard. I also liked his efficient, unflashy footwork.

Technically, Rosario was outstanding... physically, he had great talent (especially his ridiculous power)

His problems were in his head, his heart and what he got up to when he wasn’t in a boxing ring

Even with all the running and holding i'm surprised Garza lasted that long. He was offering absolutely nothing in return and every shot Rosario landed had effect, which also were plentiful.

Had Wilfredo actually trained for Leonard, he may have won. Papa Gregorio and another one of his sons dragged him out of The Plush Horse Disco in Vegas at 4 AM the morning of the Leonard fight.

I miss being young. If i stay up until 4AM drinking now it would be a massive chore just to mow the lawn that day. Forget about doing anything remotely athletic.

Benitez HATED being called wilfredo, you should know this stinger.

Would you consider the plush horse discos security detail as airtight as the one you ran at the river oaks gentlemans club?

Heavyweight Leroy Caldwell (who fought 'em All Twice) was the bouncer there at The Plush Horse. I was only probably 18 at that time still in school did not go there. Heard the other place closed up many years ago, with the owners - a couple - going to federal prison for money laundering offenses, among other things. Went by there perhaps 4 or 5 years ago to pick up some things, and the place is something different now - looks to be a warehouse/supply place.

    Another KO puncher.

Jackson’s power was truly not of this earth. The hardest puncher from 154 pounds or below, imo.

When he hit a man, it just looked downright chilling.
