Well, I was kinda hoping to avoid WBOgus belt, if at all possible.
After all, Vitaly is a champion emeritus, I'm sure such a glorious title was handed to someone who defeated a long list of champions....Too bad, I never can find any, when I'm looking at Vitaly's record....

Thanks, and I always go for the knockout no matter who it is, quick nights are the best nights, get back to your family and friends, the less I get swung at the better!!

Tell your son, not to give up, its a really, really hard sport, especially the training, its easily discouraging, mainly at the beginning...so make sure he sticks with it!

No I didnt knock him out, I beat him on ESPN back in 96...I beat him like 23-4 or something like that...I destroyed him, hurt him a couple times...if were in the same weight class now, I would knock him out by the 3rd or 4th round.

I would have beaten you, if you were there...and you need to do your homework first. Find out who I beat and what titles and records I hold

Did you hold a title of world champion when you were an amateur?
    How about Olympic champion?
Would you say your amateur record is better than that of Laslo Papp or Teofilo Stevenson?
How does your titles compare to those Mark Breland had as an amateur?

I think for some reason, Ortho has this weird made-up image of Vitaly as this tough, gritty fighter, somehow ignoring Vitaly's proven record of quitting, inability to win a single fight against a champion, and a total lack of any notable names on his resume..

I will answer your question for you as soon as you will tell us if you were a world amateur champion, or a Olympic champion, or even came close to being one. You claimed to be one of the finest amateurs ever, and I would like to see come proof of that, namely the international titles you've held.
    Thank you.

Ok, since our friend Mr. Tucker refused to provide us any details, I will provide the info for him.
The biggest tournament Mr. Tucker participated in was amateur junior world championship in 1996, where he was defeated in the 2-nd round.
The biggest title Mr. Tucker ever won was a Panamerican championship in 1999.
In other words, Mr. Tucker doesn't come remotely close to "having one of the finest amateur careers ever".
I hope Mr. Tucker apologizes for spreading ridiculous claims.
There're literally hundreds of amateur boxers whose careers easily eclipse that of Mr. Tucker.

Just for comparison, Laslo Papp, a guy who (unlike Mr. Tucker) really does have a claim to having one of the best amateur careers ever won the following titles:
    3 times Olympic Champion
    2 times European Champion
Needless to say, Mr. Tucker insulted our collective intelligence by implying he's anywhere close to being on the same level as Mr. Papp.

The military has been the breeding ground for some good champions like Mike Weaver, the former great contender Zora Folley, the greatest lightheavyweight of them all Bob Foster, and the man considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight ever, Rocky Marciano.
Foster and Rocky are some pretty heavy company.

    Damn right.:bears:

On a note of sports trivia, Lazlo Papps compatriot and close friend, Ferenc Puskas played for the Hungarian Army team and was nick-named "The Galloping Major".

Right thru the Communist Era the ZSKA dominated Soviet Sports. The ZSKA was basically a Sports Club within the Red Army. It attracted the best funding, and thus, the best athletes. If you didn't fancy being blown up in Afghanistan, then the ZSKA could be your ticket out.

    A la Ken Norton.

I'm not trying to get into this shit throwing contest but I have to say winning a gold at the Pan-Ams means you're hot shit, and probably one of the finest amateurs in the world considering what countries participate (Cubans, Mexicans, etc).

    Other Pan-Am Gold winners:
    - Joan Guzman
    - Diego Corrales
    - Stevie Johnston
    - Felix Savon
    - David Reid
    - Antonio Tarver (this win made him a favorite to win Gold at Atlanta)

    Pan-Am SILVER winners:
    - Ricardo Lopez
    - Shannon Briggs
    - Acelino Freitas
    - Lamon Brewster

Those are just from the top of my head!

I did a check to see if Gerald won because I couldn't recall and it ends up he won Gold at batamweight (54kg) in the 1999 Pan-Am Games(Winnipeg). He beat Waldemar Font (one of the greatest Cuban Batamweights of our generation), and he beat Cermeno who is an undefeated prospect right now (12-0). He was the ONLY American to win a Gold in the 1999 Pan-Ams (the cubans dominated like they always do in amateur competition).

Based on this, yeah Tucker is a pretty decorated and distinguished Amateur and I consider it very fortunate that he chose to post here and let us know about his progress through the pros. Good luck Gerald and don't let the bad mouthing get to you. You have a lot of fighting years left. I'm really interested to see how you tear it up in the Pro ranks.

Tony Tucker also won a Pan Am Gold.
He was an outstanding amateur, one of the best of the late 70's and early 80's.

If Tucker is distinguished and decorated amateur, what would you call, for example, a 3-times Olympic champion?
What would you call a 4-times World champion?
Would they be in the same category as Tucker?
