Yep, that's true, he's definitely better than guys like that - but no one really considered Juarez and Tua to be elite fighters. Where as even today, Tito gets talked about as an elite fighter. Despite getting basically embarrassed by every elite fighter he fought. By the way Neil I almost forgot to say - shut the fuck up, you furious machine of pure negativity.
Mosley used to be one of my favourite fighters, and IMO is the only guy to clearly beat a prime Oscar. He was a very good, solid welterweight - but for some reason at 154 he was awful. 154 was just that one division too far for Mosley, he wasn't suited to it, he looked slow and lethargic there.
Duran = The greatest fighter ever. Late 70's Duran was the perfect fighting machine, he would have beaten any fighter in history, I have little doubt.
He's Fighting Carson Jones in What Should B an Interesting Bout...REED had the Pleasure of Matchmaking 1 of Ricardo's Fights, vs. a Guy Named Richard Best... REED:Lok:
First time someone called me 'bruv'. Been waiting a long time. :egypt: Anyway, Rafa Marquez lost to some no namers as did Marge, they both turned out alright.
Duran is not p4p number 1 all-time, there's no case to be made for it... top ten? absolutely... but number one??? no way in hell
I think he's number 1 and Robinson #2. Not only is his resumé up there with the best of them, due to having the best of both worlds, a long, dominant lightweight reign, but then competing with bigger men beyond all expectations, even beating middleweights etc. The resumé is one thing, but also I would pick the late 70's Duran to beat anyone in boxing history. The idea of there being more than 5 people to put ahead of Duran is nuts to me.
INDEED... It was a Small Clubshow in an Urban Area of Houston...Definitely BENEATH the Type of Card U'd Expect an Olympian (& Silver Medalist) to Be Fighting On...But Ricardo Williams DIDN'T Act like he was Better than the Next Man... REED & Ricardo Share the Same Birthday (10 Years Apart), so REED's ALWAYS had a Soft Spot for the Cat...But Yeah, he was Cool as Hell...Not Sure if he was HUMBLED from the Stint in Prison or if he was ALWAYS that Way... He was Also TALLER in Person than Advertised...REED had Seen Reports that Williams was 5'7-5'8, but he was Basically Looking REED (5'10) Eye to Eye... REED:Lok:
REED, funnily enough he's now listed at 5'10, did you update his wiki page? :: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricardo_Williams_%28boxer%29
Nah... But REED Knows for a FACT that Williams was Listed as SHORT as 5'7 1/2 or So, in a Couple of his HBO Bouts...Dude was MID 20's when he Went to Prison...Surely he DIDN'T have a Late Growth Spurt??? REED:scratcher:
I actually seem to remember that, Williams being listed at 5'7/5'8. Maybe he just couldn't be bothered to stand up straight when being measured ::
To Be Fair, Ricardo Williams Actually LOOKED Short & Stumpy, in Some of his Earlier Fights...SHORT & PUDGY @ 140, so it's STRANGE that he Looks TALLER & Somewhat LEANER @ 154... People Usually Look SHORTER in Person than they Appear to Be on Television...Ricardo Williams is the OPPOSITE of that...The ONLY Explanation for HBO, ESPN & Whomever Else Broadcasted an Early Williams Bout is that they were Flat Out LYING or he's GROWN as an Adult... REED:hammert:
Robinson beat Jake LaMotta when he was a tiny welterweight and LaMotta was a big middleweight. It's close, but I have Robinson at #1, Duran at #2.
THat is a great win - I used to have Robison at #1 too, but the truth is - Leonard is a considerably better fighter than LaMotta, and I think the size differences are somewhat comparable. Robinson didn't look tiny compared to Jake, same with Duran. Both clearly smaller men, but not dwarfed. I think the Leonard win is a brilliant one, beating a prime Leonard like that having moved up from lightweight, and that win combined with his LW reign and his success even at 154 and 160, I have to have him as #1.
