For some reason I found this interesting. I was under the impression that eliminated fighters remained in country until the completion of the Games. The prevaling theme on Team USA was "I'm scheduled to go home on August 26, and I'm doing so with a Gold medal." Of course, the medal scenario didn't pan out, but apparently, neither did sticking with the travel itinerary - except for Wilder and Rau'shee Warren, anyway: http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/08/22/sports/olyboxresults22.php
Not surprising considering they mostly hated each other. I gotta believe Yanez was the least liked of them all. I'd be surprised to learn that Andrade went home early though...he and Wilder made it seem like they were close.
They all gotta get back and get their two hundered dollar signing bonuses while their names are still hot.
Without a doubt. Dude's faced the best level of comp in the Olympics and is still tearing through them like sparring partners.
Hmm, I haven't seen lomachenko once. What country is he from, what weight, and who has he fought so far?
How many do you think will wind up with Golden Boy? If Andrade doesn't sign with local promoter CES, I'm thinking he's the first one they grab. Maybe Yanez (though I can see Arum snatching him up as well). King loves heavyweights, I can see him pining for Wilder.
Ukraine, Featherweight 1st round - beat Albert Selimov of Russia 14-7 in a bout that, with a better selection process, would've been a Gold medal match in any other year 2nd round - beat a Uzbeki fighter (Sultonov?) 13-1 Quarterfinals - Beat Yang Li of China 12-3 Semi-finals - beat Yakup Kılıç 10-1 Faces French featherweight Khedafi Djelkhir in the finals
The only one I could see who could even warrant minor consideration is Zou Shiming. He hasn't been dominant enough, in fact arguably got a gift a couple of fights ago. I thought it would be Tishchenko, but Lomachenko's even outdoing him - and is young enough to where there's pro potential in his future!
King really doesn't do much with the stable he has right now, so I don't think it would be a good idea for any Olympians to sign an exclusive deal with him...especially one like Wilder who needs to be very active in his early years. I could see Wilder falling to a smaller promoter Goossen, perhaps in tandem with a promoter like King...unless Golden Boy does want him. I wonder if Don King will try to sign some of the international crop to co-promotional deals. Gary Shaw might be an attractive option for some of them, given the exposure they could get early on Showtime.
boonjumnong could soon be signed by a thai promoter, and change his name to Manus Boringcheatingcuntdaengym
I have to see this kid, before he dies a long and painful death on Universum undercards like his countrymen Dzinziruk, Kotelnik and Sidorenko. :crying:
Well he won the final by stoppage, I guess that qualifies. I´ll watch it now. Looks like a yoiung Kostya. Great boxer, and his power seemed scary in this fight.
The MW final was one of the ugliest, most horrible to watch fights I have ever seen. At one point, the Cuban even bit DeGale on the tit, a.l.a Stinger Karl  MTF
El - I just caught it. You guys weren't lying, Lomachenko is easily the best of this Olympic crop. Excellent fighter. I hope he turns pro soon. That French guy was not bad, but Chenko just demolished him. Quick, accurate, powerful, good movement. Damn good. Degale is absolutely HIDEOUS to watch, but I'm still kind of glad he won the Gold. He's fairly likeable, and moreover - I just don't like Cuban boxers.
There's some similarity. Although witter is far, far more annoying, and also I think Degale is more naturally awkward, whereas Witter clearly makes a concerted effort to be unorthodox, all part of ingle's bullshit, mickey mouse style.
Looks like another biting incident. The cuban welterweight bit the brit on the chest. No DQ though, because the ref didn't see it, but points were given to the brit.
damn picked the wrong day to sleep in. do you guys have a place you go for the overall results? NBC website?
