Oscar was much better all around, though. I can’t see Oscar struggling with the likes of Garcia and Porter. He wouldn’t have let Guerrero go the distance neither, nor would he have had problems with Collazo. Whereas, Thurman wouldn’t have been able to hang with with the likes of Trinidad, Mosley, Quartey, and even the 33 year old Sweet Pea that many thought Oscar did not beat.
of course Oscar was better, but neither man knew how to husband his shots in a proper fashion. It was all "Hit him hit him!!"
This is true. Oscar at least had a jab, but his ring IQ wasn’t what it should have been for a fighter of his talent, and he had lots of moments of sloppiness. Thurman and Khan are actually similar. Both rely a lot on speed and athleticism but they operate in very much a one dimensional manner.
I question Oscar's IQ because you look at guys like Quartey, who had a jab........but USED his jab. Oscar had a lot of flat spots in the Quartey fight where he didn't do anything at all.
Just looking at Oscar vs David Kamau "Only if you are injured do you go to the weights"- George Foreman on weight lifting.
I think Oscar knowing that Quartey could hurt him played a major role in him not doing a lot for the majority of that fight. Quartey didn’t press and Oscar was relieved he didn’t, and had it not been for Ike fading down the stretch, I don’t think Oscar goes for it in the 12th round. Whereas against a weight drained Trinidad he boxed well and had a lead, but once Trinidad started to press more and land with more regularity, De La Hoya’s only answer was to run. Oscar had good enough IQ to follow a game plan but he never made good adjustments.
I could see Porter’s awkward rough housing in the early going making Oscar uncomfortable but I think De La Hoya’s left hook gets there too often for Porter to survive.
Oh please! Oscar would have fucked Porter up badly. Not a competitive fight at all. The trio of Porter/Thurman/Garcia is absolute fucking garbage compared to the trio of Oscar/Tito/Ike. Spence and Crawford are high quality fighters, but Thurman/Garcia/Porter are all just mediocre level welterweight belt holders.
thurman now been hurt by soto karass and josesito lopez, at different points in his career. let that sink in
getting hurt is not that big of a deal. What's important is the way you react, and Thurman showed that he was a lion everytime he got hurt
surely "El Leon" Thurman would fight thru a minor scrape like a fractured orbital bone to victory vs spence, unlike that pussy brook
Neil's point was that its alarming that he's been hurt by Soto Karass and Lopez, two non-punchers. As for how Thurman fares against the division... he probably still beats Pac, but it's close. Thurman is a lot better than Broner, and I don't think Pac looked great against Broner, despite winning basically every round. Spence and Crawford wreck the poor guy.
Ill believe crawford wreck an elite fighter when he has the guts to actually fight one (which he doesnt seems to have)
Yayyyy! Another fight where that fucking bum will lose every round, then claim he was robbed at the end. Can't wait...
