Much more then you, I'm sure.

I'm not arguing the effectiveness of stomps and soccer kicks, I'm just saying there isn't very much 'skill or technique' in them.

    Now I'm an MMA newbie?

I've been watching UFC since day 1. I had a black box that allowed me to watch all the PPV's for free, so I watched just about all of them as they happened, until they got booted off of cable.

But you know that, you're just trolling. And very weakly, I might add.

So you're saying when Sakuraba totally destroyed Royler Gracie with soccer kicks on the ground, there wasn't any skill? Just stop posting in the MMA section, you're making yourself look foolish.

Anyone who says "Soccer kicking someone on the ground takes no skill" hasn't watch many MMA fights. Sakuraba's destruction of Royler Gracie was beautiful and skillful.

TFK falls into the "MMA newbie category" because he just doesn't know much about the sport.

And you must fall into the 'Trolling newbie catagory' because your trolling is weak, and even worse, it's obvious.

Even if he isn't familiar with Sak vs. Gracie, ....doesn't mean he is a "newbie".

There are alot of Pride fights I havent seen....but I've been watching MMA for 15 years now.

Saying certain things require "no skill" when there are clearly examples to the contrary makes someone a newb.

TFK acts like anyone could go in there and soccer kick the shit out of professional MMA fighter. :atu:

Of course that's not what I said. But when one thinks of skill and technique, soccer kicks and head stomps aren't exactly what come to mind.

for me what was interesting about pride was the tournaments they had

fight twice in the same day and those open weight tournaments

and come on...everyone likes seeing freak show fights...pride would have plenty of that

    Great points!!!!!

There was just something about Pride...and it was the things you stated.

Most MMA fans would rather fights be fought in a cage, I think.
Most MMA fans don't have a problem with the few rules differences.

But most MMA fans prefer PRIDE for some reasons you stated.

    Umm yes you did.

You simply don't understand the intricacies of MMA to make a statement like that in light of previous fights which you haven't even seen. You're a total newb.

True, a lot of American fans don't have enough respect to really learn what the ground game is so they can actually know what's going on.

I'd venture to say my girlfriend knows more about the ground game from just watching MMA with me on the couch than half the people who post on this forum.

I mean you have guys like TFK who think what Sakuraba did to Royler Gracie takes "no skill". This place is an utter joke sometimes.

TFK is right, stomping and soccer kicking doesn't require much skills, sure you can improve on it a bit ( like the chute box guy did ), but it's pretty much what it is, let's not fool ourselves into believing it's a splendid demonstration of skills and technique, and that's coming from a guy who liked Pride much much more than the UFC, but it does take a lot of skills and strategies ( or an opponent mistake) to be in position to deliver such strikes, that's the beauty of it

More good points. Pride knew exactly how to put on a good show, simple as that. As if having quality fighters and a great production with great rules wasn't enough, we even got the bonus of having open weight tournaments, and fighters fighting more than once on the same day.

That was fuckign hardcore. Pride was hardcore.

Pride was basically what got me BACK into MMA, after getting a little bored of the UFC and beign exclusively a boxing fan.

Pride had better fighters for the most part. UFC has lot of overhyped garbage from TUF.

Watch the Sims-Mir fight i would say stomping takes some skill. Wes Sims couldn't even stomp good.

Everything takes skill at that level. However, some of the other things Sakuraba was able to do versus the Gracie klan took more skill. The high kicks. The Muay Tai kicks versus Royce. The bone crunching kimura versus Royler and Renzo.

IMO those things make kicking a downed opponent seem minimal in level of difficulty. Although it was fun to watch Royler almost cry with each kick.

that overhyped garbage made it a habit to beat the hell out of PRIDE superstars.

It was the PRIDE fighters who were overhyped (mostly due to sherdog.com), nothe the UFC fighters. The level of talent was about the same.

The whold Pride Fighters vs UFC Fighters argument is a dumb one, since many fighters fought for both groups, and others. There aren't too many fighters out there that fight for one group exclusively.

Plus, drug testing, and Pride's lack of it means you're comparing apples and oranges. We've all heard the stories about steroid and pain killer use in Pride. Hell, they say Don Frye was so doped up on painkillers when he fought Ken Shamrock, that not only did that keep him from tapping out in their fight, but Frye was walking around on horribly damaged ankles without really feeling any pain at all.

Agreed. I like the updates and fight schedules he typically post. All kidding aside, he has spearheaded the increase in usage of this section.

I mean, he's not hard as fuck like you, or a 5th degree black belt in Judo like Bama, but the dude keeps this section rolling.
