Otis, have you seen any of Nathan Cleverly? (current European 175 champ)....he'll be looking to take a step up in class as the year progresses, might be worth banging the drum for a match-up.

    EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: OTIS GRIFFIN
    By Stephen Edwards

Boxingtalk is here with Otis Griffin, who is coming off of an eighth round knockout of former super middleweight titlist Byron Mitchell. Can you tell us a little bit about the fight?

Otis Griffin: "It was a more brutal fight than it may have sounded like. Byron Mitchell punches like he has bricks in his hands. I definitely expect him to keep fighting on. He was hell bent on trying to knock me out. And once he saw I wasn't going any where I think he got the Mike Tyson's disease. I was using a move that Holyfield and Toney use when they rock and counter the right hand. I also kept touching him to the body. Finally in the 8th round I hit him with a 4 punch combo, he staggered and I opened up and got him out of there."

BT: Byron Mitchell is known as a big puncher, in fact he dropped and hurt Joe Calzaghe [years ago]. Did he hurt you at all?

OG: He didn't hurt me, but I definitely felt his power. I stayed aware the whole fight because I could feel the power in his blows.

BT: Will you be ranked now at 175 after this performance?

OG: Yes, I am actually looking to come in at #3 in the IBF and all of the other sanctioning bodies will come in after that.

BT: Tavoris Cloud is the IBF champ, is that somebody you're eyeing in the near future?

OG:Definitely, definitely. We actually have history. He was supposed to be my 1st defense of my NABO title, but his people decided to go another route he was a little young and inexperienced at the time. I'm looking to get the winner of Cloud and Glen Johnson or the winner of Yusaf Mack and Omar Sheika, maybe even Joey Spina.

BT: so you can make 168lbs also?

OG: Definitely, I'm putting the world on notice anybody from 168 to 175. Lucian Bute if he needs an opponent. Jeff Lacy, who I felt I beat the 1st time I fought him, I'm sure he knows that. And Kelly Pavlik. I know he's moving up and he needs an opponent. I would be more than happy to fight Pavlik.
