It deserves all of its iconic status and acclaim... Those first two films are basically perfect

The acting performances in that...are better than Codfather.
    And the direction.

    And pretty much everything else.

"Once Upon A Time In America"! Anagrams are for children. :nono:

It's not quite in the class of "The Godfather" movies, but the long form version released in Europe is a legitimate classic. Kind of a grittier, dirtier version of "Godfather II".

The shorter U.S. cut of the movie is a fucking travesty. If that was the only version that saw the light of day, it would never be rated at all.

Really pounds home that the editing process can make or break a film.

    I'm young at heart.

I'll try rewatching the thing again some time when I'm bed ridden with a hangover. I do love the sets of early 20th century NYC

I don;t think there is a highly regarded film from the 70s that I haven't seen at least once

It's curious how cdogg ignores Gene Hackman's portrayal of Oliver Cromwell in "The best man who ever lived". The film along with Hackman won 124 Oscars.

    django was crap

Once Upon A Time in America is a good movie, but doesn't compare to the Godfather films imo (i've only seen the 229 min version)

This is where this overrated/underrated stuff gets murky and why I don't usually bother with these discussions including in boxing.

    But "Crap"? Cmon.

As an ACTOR, REED Thinks he's Incredibly Overrated...He's the SAME Dude in just about Every Film...Most of the People that Praise Eastwood Grew Up WATCHING him & are Understandably NOSTALGIC about the Ol' Fart...

oh yeah. he is definitely one of those guys that are the same. But he is one of the actors that you go see because he is him. It's like reading the same character in many different books in different situations.
