Agreed. His hand speed and experience may allow him to land a few nice shots and be competitive early but he's just not going to be handle the consistent pressure and younger legs of Spence. It's a 12 round fight, not a sparring session. Manny has always shown a ton of heart but at this stage of his career if he's getting beaten up i don't think his corner will let it continue.
agREED on Pac Looking GREAT vs. Thurman, but There was Also NO VADA Testing for that Bout...If There's VADA Testing, Pac Loses CONVINCINGLY... If There ISN'T, He Could Look Thurmanesque Again and Possibly Win... Random Blood/Urine Testing is LITERALLY the Determining Factor in This Fight... REED
Old Pac beat Thurman because he was a leap amateur, and Spence isn't, so Spence will probably put Pac in a PINE BOX
Spence team(not Spence or his training team) should be thinking pass Pacquiao into his next fight....if he wins it will be BIGLY, they need to take advantage the 6-12 month after the Pac.... and Spence Jr. during the build up go ahead become an arrogant asshole...just like "MONEY" Mayweather...don't be humble...don't be shy....
Well Thurman beat Porter more convincingly (or at least, as convincingly) than Spence did. Sure, the Thurman that Pac beat was arguably a lesser version than the one that fought Porter, but who knows if Spence can go back to his pre-accident form himself (the Garcia fight was pretty meaningless considering Danny barely tried).
I think the Thurman win already solidified him a spot in the top 10 (albeit at the very bottom IMO). Beating Spence could give him a case for being nearer the top 5 IMO. Unfortunately, I feel as though Thurman was Pac's Duran-Barkley moment and his next big fight (whoever it is) will be his Duran-Leonard III. Maybe he'll prove me wrong come August, but I had hoped he would call it a day after Thurman and end his career on a high note.
I just wanna make a distinction between Duran-Barkley and Pac-Thurman. Barkley was in his prime. Thurman was coming off years of inactivity and going life and death with Whosesito Lopez. Duran's win over Barkley was far more impressive. Please don't overrate Pac's win over Thurman. It was the EXPECTED result. People thought Barkley was gonna slaughter Duran.
The flipside to this argument is that Thurman was undefeated and had been an established top fighter in his division for several years, while Barkley had been considered a near-journeyman until pulling off a shocking upset out of the blue (and then regressed back into journeyman status immediately after the Duran loss).
A "journeyman" who would go onto give Nunn a tough fight, beat Hearns a second time, and destroy Van Horn years AFTER the Duran fight? Yeah, that's some "journeyman" right there. That's one stupid ass Pac fanboy statement if I've ever heard one. What's Thurman done lately? Oh yeah, that's right, nothing. Because he only took the Pac fight as a cash out. Wanna know the true definition of a "journeyman"? Josesito Lopez, who gave Thurman Hell and seriously hurt him before your hero, aka the betting favorite, did exactly what the odds makers and boxing media expected him to do.
It's more about age than it size and weight class here. Love EJ, but I'll be the first to admit, circa 2009 Pac would have lit Spence's ass up. Spence wins because he's in his prime and Pac is far past his.
after rewatching Pac vs Thurman, Spence vs Garcia/Porter.... Spemce has two punches the jab/straight left hand... Pac has lose the speed and explosiveness of his punches....and when he get's hit he doesn't come back violently with his own attack at least he didn't again Thurman.... Spence needs to stand back with the jab/left stay out of exchanges and he should win easily...Pac footwork has also deteriorated but he still can bounce in and out from different angles..but Spence long reach/height/speed should keep him safe as long as he does something stupid...like reaching with the straight left then leaving it out there a bit too long...
You mysteriously "forgot" the fight where Barkley was walked over in a single round just two fights removed from Duran. There were plenty of characterizations of Barkley as a journeyman or the like both before and after the Hearns fight. That doesn't magically go away because it doesn't happen to coincide with some childish agenda you have to hate more modern fighters. Duran Scores Stunning Win : Takes Barkley's WBC Title on a Split Decision "Despite a 25-5 record and 16 knockouts, this survivor from the Bronx had built his reputation on one punch, a lucky punch, some said. That was the blow last June that floored Hearns and gave Barkley the WBC title. Until then, Barkley was considered little better than a journeyman. Even in that fight. He was bloodied and bruised in that third round and appeared ready to go until he reversed the course of events with one shocking right hand." https://www.upi.com/Archives/1990/04/10/Hearns-wants-to-move-up-in-weight/1818639720000/ "Hearns, 31, says he learned not to underestimate any opponent after he was knocked out by journeyman Iran Barkley in 1988." Yes, he was hurt in a fight that he otherwise won decisively - something that was far less embarrassing than what we routinely saw in Barkley fights like his ones with Jorge Ampara and Juan Hernandez, but is selectively made an issue by you when it happens to a fighter that you have an interest in criticizing.
Benn didn't walk over Barkley. He stopped him on the ridiculous 3 KD rule in a fight that looked like it was shaping up to be a classic. I have no anti-Pac agenda, and if he upsets Spence, I would say he's justified top 10 all time. My point was that was the Thurman win wasn't thaaaatttt impressive. I know you didn't post yet here back when Pac-Thurman happened, but basically, none of us picked Thurman. Not many boxing writers picked Thurman either. Why should Pac get heaps of praise for doing what he was expected to do? For the record, I already have Pac top 20 all time, so its not like I low-ball the guy.
spence is gonna lay a beating on pacquiao, who will predictably come up with some excuse. whether it be his socks, the gloves, his shoulder, etc
I don't think so. Hagler vs Minter, Sibbo and Hamsho are arguably better IMO. Lou Broulliard and Young Corbett III fought in 1935, and they're both all-time great welterweights. This doesn't top that IMO. Pac's too old.
How many buys yall reckon this gets? I forgot how many buys Thurman-Pac got, but this will easily get more, as Spence is a bigger star than Thurman. I dont think it'll break a mil, but maybe 800k buys?
