Although I'd rather see Pacquiao-Marquez II, this is still good news.

I wouldn't go that far, as I'll still be interested to see it, but I share your sentiment in that Pacman should be fighting Marquez not Barrera.

Top Rank, GBP reach peace pact
    By Abac Cordero
    Saturday, June 30, 2007

It’s time to put up the big fights.

With these words, Bob Arum yesterday confirmed earlier reports that Top Rank and Golden Boy, fighting it over the promotional rights to Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao, have smoked the peace pipe.

Arum said in a brief phone interview that details of the settlement, which was described as “universal,†will be announced today in Los Angeles, site of the mediation talks between the former bitter rivals.

“There will be an announcement tomorrow,†he told The STAR.

Lawyers from Top Rank and Golden Boy, owned by Oscar dela Hoya, are drafting the terms of the agreement where the two firms are bound to share the promotional rights over the Filipino superstar.

“When you start drafting these things, it means that things have fallen into place. It’s time to put up the big fights,†said Arum who credited retired Judge Daniel Weinstein for bringing the two parties together.

With “big fights†Arum meant a string of multi-million-dollar bouts pitting Pacquiao, of Top Rank, against Golden Boy wards Marco Antonio Barrera, Edwin Valero, Joan Guzman and reigning world champion Juan Manuel Marquez.

Humberto Soto, the rising star from Mexico who also comes from the Top Rank stable, is suddenly out of the picture. He was being lined up for an Oct. 6 fight with the Filipino in Vancouver.

A possible Pacquiao-Barrera fight will take place in October either in Las Vegas, probably at Mandalay Bay, or Los Angeles, at the Staples Center. It’ll be a rematch of their 2003 showdown won by the Filipino inside 11 rounds.

Pacquiao should earn around $5 million for this fight, and Barrera, the former WBC super-featherweight champion who has hinted of retirement, can take in no less than $2 million on his purse alone.

“The pieces to the puzzle are being put into place. Now the lawyers on both sides are carefully crafting the peace agreement in which Bob Arum and Oscar De La Hoya will bury their legal hatchets,†Michael Marley of boxingconfidential.com wrote.

Whether the fight will be carried by HBO or PPV (pay-per-view) remains to be decided.

Despite news that Pacquiao is facing another court battle against his estranged manager Shelly Finkel, the 28-year-old slugger can actually sit back and relax now that he’s out of his promotional woes.

The Top Rank-Golden Boy court case stemmed from the fact that Pacquiao signed promotional contracts with both firms last year.

Pacquiao is in Manila doing a new commercial for San Miguel Beer. The ad also features Chinese martial arts superstar Jet Li who flew into the country the other day.

Pacquiao is scheduled to fly to the US in the next few days for a poker tournament where he was invited as a guest participant.

this reporter from the phil star can be trusted, so i think the report is factual.

    another one ive found:

LOS ANGELES (June 29) -- Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank have reached a settlement of the various legal disputes including that pertaining to Manny Pacquiao.

Bouts between Manny Pacquiao and marquee fighters under contract to Golden Boy will be co-promoted by Golden Boy and Top Rank. Fights between Manny Pacquiao against fighters other than Golden Boy fighters will be promoted by Top Rank with Golden Boy retaining a promotional interest.

The first fight which will be presented under this arrangement will be Manny Pacquiao vs. Marco Antonio Barrera on October 6, 2007 at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy, and Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank, both agreed that the settlement will be great for boxing as Top Rank fighters will be taking on Golden Boy fighters in the months and years ahead.

All other details of the settlement are confidential.

ill get the exact link in a bit.

I can't see anyone making MAB a favorite in this.

Pac is a much better fighter now than he was then. MAB has done nothing but get older.

Pac-MAB II won't be any different than Pac-Morales III. MAB will go a few additional rounds, but the result will be the same.

im sorry i didnt get to see this thread as i posted my linked post in the other thread.

well anyway for us boxing fans, the bigger and greater news is that top rank and golden boy are now "friends" with each other and we see great match ups very soon.

as for pac-barrera, i dont like this match-up also, but i think this is the necessary evil with this agreement or what we call "package deal". but we will get the great matchups soon.

as for manny pac, i saw him earlier at the local stock market (he looks fit but big for his height, my guess is he is between 144-150 right now) with his mafia looking entourage (think old guys with fancy cars and young women and bodyguards) me and my friend thought that he will be looking after some stocks or beat up a stockbroker who has done him wrong lol but i was told it was about this meeting about this beer commercial he will be doing with jet li.

hes not fat at the moment, but really looks big for his height (for me at least) but he always goes down to 130 fairly easily

I've actually seen some recent pictures of Pac. He looks around 145 right now, and yes he does go out dressed like an old school gangster. I saw a picture of him in L.A with a fancy Versace suit, and long coat. All he was missing was the cane.

Pac has weighed in 1-2 pounds under the 130 pound limit for his biggest fights at 130. He has no problems making weight.

I didn't know about the entourage, that's funny. He's famous as fuck in asia, he already did a San Miguel commercial with Morales. The Jet Li commercial must be for San Miguel too. He has a $5,000,000 per year advertising contract with them.

:bears: Great news. Not only does this pave the way for Pacquaio vs. Barrera/Marquez/Guzman, but also Mosley vs. Cotto/Clottey.

Agreed, this could lead to a "golden" era in boxing from 122 to 160.

    Pac vs Fagquez
    Cotto vs Mosley
    Margarito vs Mosley
    Arce vs Gorres
    Pavlik vs Winky
    Pavlik vs Hopkins

Gorres is one of my favorites, he gave a good fight to Montiel (who many felt he beat), and who I think could probably outbox and beat Arce if they fought.

Pacquiao, Cotto, Roy Jones (before he was shot), and Trinidad are what got me through this decade in terms of boxing. If all of these guys suddenly vanished, I'd probably just stick to MMA if no exciting fighters stepped up to replace them.
