I wonder what Williams was thinking to KO him in the 1st round to make a statement.

Williams has become overrated, but to say he's not an elite fighter is just silly. Is he a great fighter? No, and probably never will be. But he's good, maybe even very good. Theres no non-elite fighter that would beat Margarita. Either way, he'll kick Philips ass. The 3 threats for Williams at 154 are Santos, Dzinziruk, and Sergio Martinez. Those 3 guys would give him HELL, in fact I'd probably pick all 3 over him.

Williams UD. If Williams stops Verno, I will be inpressed. Verno is a solid workmanlike fighter. I always liked him and thought he overachieved. Williams should beat him easily.

i diagree. Julio was thoroughl out-boxed by Quintana. Williams, in his first fight with Quintana, made it close.

Williams is strange. His convincing win over Marge, and his blowout of Quintana are marks of an elite fighter.

But in all his other fights he hasn't really looked like an elite fighter at all, including getting schooled by Quintana in the first fight.

Paul might just be the guy who had the style to beat Marge. A bit like Taylor - Nard.

I think it remains to be seen whether Paul is an elite fighter.

Funnily enough, I think Taylor is still a borderline elite fighter, and always shall be

ppl are exaggerating big time the following two results:

    1. Quintana/Williams I
    2 Williams/Quintana I

Both were close fights, but somehow the myth that both match-ups were schoolings continues to grow. Group think. We need to be more vigilante about avoiding it if we intend on confining our discussions to actual events.

Uuuuuh, Aren't these THE SAME Fights???:notallthere:...

Anyways, When Carlos Quintana BEAT Paul Williams, it was a DECISIVE Victory...Williams was the "House" Guy that Night, yet there was NOfuckingWAY the Judges Could even ENTERTAIN the Idea of Giving him the Knod...

    WHY???...

Because he Got SCHOOLED...& there's NO Shame N that...OBVIOUSLY, Williams LEARNED from that & JUMPED ON Quintana N the RE, Instead of Allowing him to SET a Rhythm & DICTATE the Tempo...

I guess you meant Margarito Williams I and Quintana-Williams I. I agree Margarito Williams was close but Quintana beat Williams by a wider margin than Williams beat Margarito, it's clear for me. I know you've tried to pretend Quintana fought a negative fight, didn't want to engage, and even said the fight could have gone either way but I think you have Margarito in your mind when you try to push that crap.

Some interesting speculation about Williams... who the hell knows? the kid has some physical attributes that make him stand out in a crowd of potentialss... I mean lets see blazing hand speed? power that rocks the ground? IMpecable knowledge of the game, the movement of a natural? nahh... hes got reach and he doesn't have an off switch when punching so now everyone wants the kid to throw down with Floyd... nahh!

Williams beats philips by ud. I don't see any elite qualities to the kid except the fiat he gets cause he bested Margarito who beat Cotto.

Max just claimed Margarito was offered 5 million dollars for a rematch with Williams and turned it down.
