Sounds like he knew his purse was only going to be $50K for THIS fight, believing that he was going to get multiple millions for a fight with Bute...then he found out the offer for Bute was only $1M, or something like that. It's sad...two guys from near my area (Pavlik and Spadafora) both sorta turned out to be bad situations.
I don't know whether or not Pavlik ends up fighting again and doing well financially. It's boxing; you cannot say "he's done". Kelly Pavlik could certainly score another million dollar payday, does anyone doubt that? He still has a name, a following, and a certain draw, even as the "opponent" who is brought in essentially to lose to someone considered more elite he stands to make good chunks of money, but probably not for too much longer. He gets a new trainer, does a Zab Judah and "turns his life around" says "he's hungry again", blah, blah, I'd bet you'd see him a live dog against almost anyone not Sergio Martinez. On the quotes - the guy sounds like he is slipping into mental illness. Yeah, could just be a good old drunk, but when someone of his accomplishment and public stature literally begins obsessing about a rinky-dink newspaper and a former boxer who mouths off about him.... it actually gives me a little bit of that sick feeling in my stomach. Like the guy is just sort of slipping off the cliff for real now. You're going to now disparage a 50-year-old former fighter and vengefully dredge up his private life in public because he said mean things about you? To the "Youngstown Bugle" or whatever? Then several repetitive paragraphs about Pac spending money? Or De la Hoya in rehab? Huh? All this looks like to me is a guy who himself drinks too much, parties too much, spends too much, and is otherwise out of control and on the slide is now angrily lashing out at anyone and everyone. Blaming them and criticizing them in some sort of floundering effort to take the attention of himself. You can tell the guy feels like shit for everything he is doing, he knows he is generally fucking things up, so he is extremely defensive about every little pathetic nuance. He should be like Nick Cage in "Leaving Las Vegas", and just with a straight face and conviction tell everyone he is no longer fighting as he has decided to drink himself to death over the next 18 months, and he can just carry sacks filled with hard liquor bottle around with him. You could just hear the bottles clinking everywhere he goes, kind of like the jingling bells of Santa Claus, just much more disturbing and perhaps jollier. He would then finally be immune from criticism and people can just leave him alone to do what he likes best.
I laugh because I can't help but wonder how in the hell does he know what Pacquiao's contract says as far as how much he'll make for a fight? And how in the hell does he know about "advancements" Pacquiao receives and why he receives them? :atu: This is fvcking hilarious!
Pavlik is simply exhibiting typical alcoholic thinking: accepting no responsibility for his own actions, harboring resentments, blaming others for his misfortunes, and showing no sign of anything remotely passing for gratitude for what he's been able to accomplish. He sounds like a little spoiled shit who needs his ass kicked before he can possibly turn things around.
Hey you ignorant, simple fuck, I'm going by what Pavlik said on Aug 3 according to this radio interview: http://www.maxboxing.com/news/max-boxing-news/pavlik-breaks-silence-top-rank-wants-to-cash-me-out "“I had not known until a week ago the amount of money I was getting paid for this fight in Youngstown and the amount of money I was getting paid to fight Bute in Canada."
If you imply this or state it outright, you must be a contrarian, despite the fact that it is common sense.
well it seems that johnsosn is out as a replacement , as he was offered significantly less than 375k. seems like Bute will fight another bum
SO, in an unexpected twist, Bute will actually fight Johnson. Credits to him from a long time naysayer
