Fraudweather has the biggest joke of a resume of any "Legend" in history. Who the f*ck has he even beaten in their primes? Which greats? Which divisions has he ruled? Which epic battles has he had? :::laughing: He f*cking fights LITTLE MEN at CATCH-WEIGHTS for f*ck sakes!!! :atu:
When Trinidad, Vargas, Roy, and Oscar were at the peaks of their powers, nobody knew Fagweather existed! He's only relevant because boxing fans have nobody else left in the sport to suck off except Pacquiao.
The problem with your argument is you're speaking as though the audience is a casual fan. We're not and we know better. It's akin to saying Lauryn Hill won more Grammy's in a single year than the Beatles...doesn't make her a better artist. I won't rehash the who and why in all of this. As much as I dislike DLH (more than my distaste for Mayweather) and he did cherry pick his way through a certain portion of his career the ONE thing you have to give him credit for is he fought guys at the top of their game. In fact, he was the opposite of Floyd...Floyd started out fast and faded whereas Oscar fought older guys on their way down (Whitaker, Chavez and Camacho) to then take on other great fighters in their prime...Hopkins, Trinidad and Mosley. As said...you have to go back 7 or 8 years to say the same about Floyd...doesn't matter how you slice it. if you're speaking to the 20 and under club, your words have merit. Everyone else sees things as they are. I HATE Oscar...but have to give him credit because he did challenge himself and fought EVERYONE. Even a guy like Quartey who isn't a great fighter by any means but at the time he was one tough SOB...even if Oscar did make him sit on the shelf for nearly a year before getting around to fighting him. There simply are too many guys floyd flat out didn't fight...and I don't have to go to 147 either...Tszyu was the man at 140 but Hatton got to him first...Floyd went after a n easier mark in Gatti. So my point is, those fights are relevant in terms of money however in terms of quality in opponent there will always be an asterik. That's just how it is. Lastly...Mosley knocked Mayorga the fuck out and was 36 at the time. If he were 26 or 30 then you'd have a point...plus...that was at 154 and Mayorga is one cockstrong dude...again...the exact kind of guy Floyd would NEVER fight. That's what happens when you fight different kinds of styles and the toughest guys out there...you win and you lose...all great fighters have done this. If you know boxing and know how things have shaken out historically the more folks cling to Floyd being undefeated the more obvious it make his steering around the best challenges.
Again...I HATE to defend Floyd but that's the case with every fighter...could be said about Sugar Ray Leonard, Hearns, Hagler and Duran...all after the decline of Ali.... Follow that with the Tyson era. Julio Cesar Chavez was just a guy on Tyson undercards mostly until Tyson went to prison then he became Don King's man. Trinidad was buried on Chavez undercards until Chavez showed slippage then HE became Don King's man. Oscar was coming along at that time as well. That's how the game has always gone...always someone around to replace the last guy.
He is highly motivated and probably REFRESHED by Richardson in terms of confidence and following a gameplan. He likes to train and is pretty much involved with boxing daily. He was waiting to line up Berto, then with cancellation and this opporturnity the layoff is what it is. It's not like he left and is coming back into the flow of things again. I just don't think he will AGE overnight. Not this fight.
I think you are being a little UNFAIR. Mayweather did beat alltime greats, Sosa, N'Dou, Corley and the highly regarded top 10 p4p Bruselles. All in succession.
I actually enjoy watching the Mayweathers on 24/7 I honestly think people take them too seriously. :: Sure they say stupid shit all the time but it's entertaining. I would love it if the whole Mayweather clan got a reality show. Most of the shit Floyd's says is to sell fights and it works.
Well when Floyd was fighting at 130 and 135, he took on the best in those divisions in all fairness. Its when he got to 140 that he started this safe match making to keep his "0" intact. And he has not faced a true 147 pounder in his prime. The sad thing is that I think he would have beaten the likes of Margarito, Cotto, Mosley, Cintron, Williams, and Clottey. But he just won't take the risks. Sadly he just doesnt' have the mentality of a true champion. Its a shame, really.
I think he could've have gotten KTFO by any of them and the reason he didn't want to fight them is because he doesn't believe he's really as good as his fans think he is. He bitched out, plain and simple. He realized guys were bigger and stronger as he went higher in weight and opted to take calculated risks with minimal resistance. Check out the youtube video and look at his bitch reply when asked why he won't fight Cotto. top rank wanted no part of a mayweather jr. -cotto fight. bob arum couldve easily made the bout while both were at 140 lbs and under his banner. lee samuels acknowledged that mayweather jr was their best boxer as well.
Who would have guessed, a shit undercard is what we get with this fight. Just saw it posted on fightnews. Garbage!
Good for Floyd. Finally taking on an actual welterweight. Albeit one that is a couple months shy of being 39 years old and coming in with a year and a half worth of ring rust, but those are just minor details. Good for you Floyd. After Floyd beats up Shane I can't wait for him to fight Kostya Tszyu at 147 !
