Did I read Sly state that Ray Robinson's comp is overrated????????????????????????

 

The comp of many past fighters are overrated compared with contemporary ones, simple because when names go into the annals of history they sound better than current ones. It's largely psychological. As I said before at the height of Hagler's career, his competition wasn't revered by contemporary pundits the way it is now. Hearns was considered his best win by far when he retired and even then people were saying that Hearns was a blown up smaller fighter.

Robinson beat many great names when they were either old or undersized. If he was held to the contemporary standard, many of his achievements would be criticized.

I, personally, think Robinson's competition is stellar....but it is overrated when compared with the competition of other great fighters.

For example, P4P, Ali fought better fighters than Robinson. So did Leonard.
