When Hearns destroyed him, he was a much better fighter p4p. When you take the entirety of their respective career, you have an argument for Duran.

You need to stay above ground for at least a little while longer to enjoy the glorious Patrick Laine.

I think KO Magazine had Mike Tyson (A HEAVYWEIGHT!) the pound-for-pound #1 when he fought the pound-for-pound #2 Michael Spinks. Dunno how they put a HW #1 P4P

It's one of the few times they did as far as i know. P4P was not just to be recognized in literal terms, but essentially the best fighter in the world outside of the heavyweight division because there is no limit. One on one Ray Robinson isn't going to beat Ron Lyle and Ray Leonard doesn't have a chance against Gerry Cooney.

So that means the heavyweights are better?

If you put any reasonably competent driver in a Ferrari against a Formula 1 champion in a minivan and the guy driving the Ferrari wins does it mean he's the better driver?

plenty of people who indulge in this fuckery ranked lennox lewis and wald pussy among the top 10 pound for pound, despite the fact they routinely outweighed and outsized the majority of their opposition

Tyson WAS the best fighter P4P at that time. If P4P were to exclude heavyweights it would be rendered meaningless

So You've Never SEEN Nor PARTICIPATED in a "Best Fighter of All Time, Pound for Pound" Discussion???...

Of Course you Have, and in Any OTHER Thread You'd Gleefully and Resoundingly Proclaim "The Duran" as a Better Fighter than Tommy Hearns, Pound for Pound...

Yet for Some Reason, You're INTENTIONALLY Being Obtuse and Disingenuous in Regards to This Topic....

Again, Pound for Pound ISNT Even Remotely as Difficult to Grasp as Some of Y'all Make it...

All time lists rank complete career accomplishments, a ring p4p list ranks the best, most dominant fighters at a given moment. Not complicated, just different. Duran's claim to be a top 10 atg is enhanced by his beating Barkley as Hearns' is by his beating hill; neither belonged within a mile of a ring p4p list of current fighters at the moment those fights took place

I don't rank heavyweights in p4p lists. The division is too unique and factors such as reach and weight come into it way more than they do in other divisions.

So does Ward's win make him P4P #1 over Chocolatito?

Controversial, but I think Kovalev deserves the nb 1 spot, and Ward is second. Loma might get the second or even first place if he looks spectacular against Walters

It's obvious that most people here preferred Kovalev going in, Ward seemed to have his haters, therefore in a close fight the forum consensus was always going to be that Kovalev won. Objectively though, this was a close fight that could have been scored either way.

I like both guy, and I could see an argument for Ward, but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt in each and every close rounds.

I would say Ward deserves to be pound 4 pound number 1 in principle. He did get the win over Kovalev, even though most seem to think he lost, including me.

But it is the single most important big fight win of the year, and taking into account Ward's overall quality of competition.

My guess is he'll unify with Stevenson first before giving Kovalev a rematch but we shall see.
