Hod does the Mosley before the divorce struggles fare against Manos de Piedra in these three weight classes?
Duran decisions Mosley at LW (the size, with the weigh-in issues, would cause Duran some trouble), stops him on his best evening as a Welter (TKO11), & wins a decision going away at 154 (again, taking both men at their best for each weight). Defense decides this bout as much as anything. Much as I have contended Duran is over-rated at times, he is just streets & streets ahead of Mosley as a fighter. Mosley was one of the better boxers of his generation --- Duran is one of the greatest of any. He was better than good, & greater than great. He was, simply, fantastic.
As long as Duran is DURAN, he beats Mosley clearly at any and all weight classes He's just a vastly more skilled fighter
Duran UD X 3 Physically Mosley matches up well with Duran but he's not on the same level in terms of ring intelligence and craft.
: how Duran would react to Shane's constant attempts at glove touching when he realised he couldn't win
Innit, Duran would suffer the most intense amount of confusion in his whole career. In fact glove touching could be Shane's best chance of winning, due to how much it would befuddle Duran.
It would be interesting at LW & WW. Duran, as much as I'm about to reference something I hate people doing, I suspect on his admittedly golden night in Montreal stops the Mosley who defined his career with that Welterweight victory over a prime Oscar De La Hoya. Mosley was great, but Duran found holes in Leonard's defense, & took a bigger, harder-punching, more versatile man & shoe-horned him into a dog-fight. As the smaller man, Duran wanted for nothing at close-quarters, & there were times when he out-right bullied Leonard. I don't see a fighter as trigger-happy & defensively-deficient as Mosley surviving. He would certainly make an effort to survive, & perhaps stink the place out, but Duran goes after him & probably ends that fight --- especially if it is a 15-rounder. Mosley has an excellent chin & Duran lost some steam on his punches moving through to 147 (though as said, he still hurt Leonard, impressively), so there wouldn't be a knockout, but I think Mosley gets stopped. Maybe in the corner between rounds. At LW, Duran was even stronger as a fighting force, with more clout behind his shots, & a touch more speed coming in. However, if you factor the weigh-ins, as much as Mosley looked spectacular fighting stiffs, he would enter somewhere way, way above Duran's in-ring weight on the night, & Duran would struggle with it. I think it's an interesting fight, in so far as how Duran wins --- inside the distance, or on points. I have zero doubt that Mosley did not come near to impressing me sufficiently at 135 with his level of competition to convince me he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but he did at least look as great as he possibly could, & would be a damn sight bigger. Both struggled quite a bit at JMW (although Duran had the better performances there overall), & that fight would definitely be a decision, IMO. Likely in Duran's favour.
Mosley lacks the defense, the versatility and the psychology to deal with Duran... I don't see it as ever being interesting... Duran is so superior that any question of who wins is moot
Definitely Duran wins all ends, but I think the way the fight unfolds at Lightweight would be of interest. I don't see Duran steamrolling him (there were many men he didn't, as much as it is blasphemy to say as much), & none were as big or demanding an opponent as Mosley. Of course, though, even with forty extra pounds in weight, Mosley did nothing to convince me he deserves the benefit of the doubt at LW with Duran. I'm not even sure I'd pick Mosley to beat someone like the Lightweight De La Hoya, much less Duran.
To be fair, Mosley couldn't possibly fight at lightweight. If he was made to Duran by stoppage within 10.
Competitive at all three weights and duran doesn't stop him at any weight but Duran wins all the time die to workrate and better ring smarts.
Mosley looked weak at lightweight. Mosley looked at his absolute peak when he first moved up, against Oscar, Sharon, Diaz etc. Duran would rape Mosley at lightweight.
Plus thats 36 hours after weighing in. He was probably 145 odd by fight time. Actually fighting at close to 135? fuggettabou' it
I was actually talking about a clash between Mosley weighing in as he did in his day vs Duran as he did in his, so Mosley obviously being bigger.
He actually did weigh in around the LW limit on fight night against Phillip Holiday, like he only gained a pound after the weigh-in
My pick as well. I think that duran would find and stun mosley enough time with rigth hands between punches to win clear cut decision but Mosley is a really live dog, and could win if a lackluster version of duran showed up
