Leeds, 2 seasons ago, had a great cup run. Ruined their promotion hopes. I'd rather go furthur in the F.A Cup than League Cup.
I would love a trophy, OF COURSE, but to stay in the premier league and become an established league side, with the possibility of playing in Europe would be brilliant.
They should give the 4th Champions League place to the winners of the FA Cup. That would re-establish the competition in one fell swoop MTF
You can get into Eurpoe, this year, by winning the Carling Cup. Even getting to the final might have been enough, presuming that one of the 'big clubs' also get there...:goodnews: This nonsense about 'concentrating on the league' really pisses me off, and it'll only get worse when Alan the Wideboy plays a team of reserves against Scunny, gets hammered, and trots out the same sort of tosh on Thursday night. MTF
For the avoidance of doubt, let me clearly state that, given the choice between Newcastle staying in mid-table in the PL for the next ten years or Newcastle being relegated this season but they 'do a Birmingham' and win the Carling Cup, I'd pick the latter. In a heartbeat... MTF
Its a flawed theory for sure. There are exceptions such as avoiding the Europa League to concentrate on a top 4 finish etc, but even thats unproven. We'll see...if Tottenham fall off badly, then that will be proof enough. Birmingham didn't fall out of the PL because they won the League Cup per se, they fell out because of how they responded to winning it. All those extra games including the final didn't "tire" them- it was slack mentality which followed.
Nah, they have ruined that too with their new poxy Wembley. It used to look savage with the great big gap between the goals, fans made extra noise so none of this touchline atmosphere was so pertinent then.
Birmingham got relegated because they are shite. Simple as that. Any team captained by fat Stephen Carr simply HAS to be shite. They won the Carling Cup because they took it moderatedly seriously, got a kind draw and some luck late on when they most needed it- elements that most cup-winning sides have. This crap about 'avoiding the Europa League' is an absolute scandal: what is the point in trying to finish 5th or 6th if you are going to bottle out of trying to win the competition this finish earns you the right to compete in? English performance in the Europa League, and it is worth bearing in mind that only the English are arrogant enough and corrupted by greed enough to treat the competition with such contempt, is appalling: no English side has made a semi-final since Boro fluked their way to the final donkeys years ago. The irony of it all is that if UEFA turned to the FA and said 'if you don't want to play you can fuck off' and stopped English teams qualifying for the damn thing, their would be an absolute outcry from the exact same bunch of cunts who have decided that they (Redknapp, O'Neill et al) are above the thing... MTF :shit:
I forgot about those scrubs...:: They took the thing seriously, too, because they are a 'small' club. Clubs like spurs and Villa have treat the thing with distain, though MTF
Stoke will try to win the Europa League. Fulham will try to win it. Both Liverpool and Fulham made it to the semi's in 2010. You gone plain out of your mind son :: Spurs will try to win it but at the same time will try to relegate it to make way for a charge back at 4th. Of course, if UEFA give a CL place to the winner of the Europa League, that's just another way of admitting that the CL is the place to be, to the detriment of the Europa League.
:hammert: Sunderland taken down by Brighton. Norwich blown out AT HOME by MK Dons. And little Shrewsbury Town rolls on. They beat Derby in round one and beat Swansea in round two. Funny. Before the Carling Cup even started,I was looking at that little town as a potential spot to visit should Everton get KO'd from the tournament before my trip. Now we may end up playing them. ray:
Blunderland will never add up to too much with Bruce The Fat as their manager. He really is a tub of shit that lad.
QPR manager Neil Warnock says he is glad to be out of the Carling Cup following their 2-0 home defeat to League One Rochdale. Rangers were one of four Premier League sides to lose to lower-league opposition on Tuesday. "I don't think people care about the competition," said Warnock, noting the crowd of 4,775 at Loftus Road. When asked if he was pleased to be out of the competition he replied: "Yes. They should revamp the cup." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14643771.stm MTF :bangh:
Notwithstanding Fulham's miraculous run, here is England's performance in the last five UEFA Cups: 2010/11: No Quarter Finalist (Liverpool and City lost last 16) 2009/10: Runner Up (Fulham) and 1 Semi Finalist (Liverpoor) 2008/9: 1 Quarter Finalist (Man City) 2007/8: No Quarter finalists (Everton and Spurs beaten in last 16) 2006/7: 1 Quarter Finalist (Spurs) That's one finalist and one semi-finalist in five years (the same year, in fact). Pathetic, considering that in the same time period in the CL, England has had 6 quarter finalists, 6 semi-finalists, 4 runner-up and 1 winner MTF
Wilshere out for 2 months and so continues the season from hell. Huge game tonight against Udinese, lose this and Arsenal will take years to recover.
I've got Wilshere in my dream team. I hope he comes back the same player. Barton in talks with QPR Feebs.
A really good signing. Comes with a lot of baggage but is undoubtedly our best player and Ashley just wants rid because he can't stand him and Joey won't just sit around letting the fat fuck push him around. MTF
Fuck me...that was close for Arsenal. Undies hit the post. Meireles crocked in the Carling Cup game. Fucks sakes.
This is some game!!! End to end stuff in Italy. EDIT: 2 massive moments there. DiNatale should be ashamed.
